Yes, 6 APs (school limits how many you can take) and multiple honors courses, plus other stuff like dance conservatory (which I’m not counting as a varsity sport, but it is similar in time commitment), etc.

I saw my scholarship info in the letter

curious - is Richmond scholarship separate from presidential or are the presidential scholars in the running for the Richmond scholarship?

any news about the Richmond Scholar program? how and when will we be notified if we are selected to be a finalist?

D accepted with Presidential scholarship! 4.4 gpa, 33ACT, 5 AP (all 4 & 5’s), competitive dancer, 2 Varsity (cheer and pole vaulting)

Deferred. 4.6gpa, 11 APs, all other honor classes. 3 sport 4 year athlete, captain of all, honors and awards, work experience that didn’t fit into common app. 1400 SATs, all green on Naviance. Excellent recommendations. Don’t get it. It was a safety school. No big deal as he has other more prestigious school acceptances, but didn’t expect this. Oh well.

Here’s what the website says re: Scholars: " Students who are selected to advance to the finalist round will be notified of their status in the Spider Portal by February 1; those students whose applications do not advance to the finalist round will not be notified. An announcement will be posted on http://scholars.richmond.edu once all finalist notifications have been sent.

Finalists will be invited to interview with a faculty selection committee via Zoom in mid-February. Final selection of Richmond Scholars will be completed by March 1."

Thank you. So those who don’t get chosen just get no merit at all? I wonder how they differentiate the Richmond from presidential? I would think they would choose all to presidential then interview the best from presidential for richmond; the rest get presidential

My son got in he went Test Optional
3.8 UW/ 4.1 W
7 APs (4 this year)
First quarter grades all A’s
Musical theater—multiple lead roles in the musicals
Chamber Choir
National Honors Society
Part time job at Chick Fila
VP of 12 Deep ( community outreach group that seeks solutions for social justice issues)
He lost a classmate to police brutality. National case so he wrote his supplement about that experience. Focused it more on solutions to the problem rather than his grief.
He also wrote his common app essay about sense of belonging.
His recommendations were strong. He used his Stats teacher, an English teacher that is also his performing arts teacher.
He also sent in a recommendation from the Director of his Musicals.

Richmond Scholars is different from Presidential, but applicants who received Presidential are still eligible to be considered for Richmond Scholars.

I don’t know. My D got accepted but no merit. Hoping she might be in consideration for Richmond Scholars. But since she did not get any Presidential scholarship, I wonder if that means Richmond Scholars is even more remote.

so if didn’t get presidential, not possible to get Richmond?

I was accepted and am a Richmond Scholar finalist (automatic Presidential scholarship)
