When are the decisions released? The website said by Dec. 31, which makes me think that it is rolling in a sense. Am I right? Also, do they inform you only by regular mail?

Regular mail. Last year my son got his the first or second week of Dec.

Apparently it is sort of rolling, as opposed to sending them all out on a specific date, like December 31. This post would imply as much, although I didn't ask for details:

I was curious about that post as well, "sent out another 24 acceptance letters today", that was posted on Nov. 15th, which was the EA deadline....
apparently they started accepting before the deadline...............

My son is in a bit of a panic now because he thought he had everything in, but just got an email that said he was missing something.

Apparently when he went to the site (?) it said he was missing his teacher rec - which the teacher sent weeks ago (and he definitely did). So there was a last minute panic Tuesday afternoon before school let out to get a new form to the teacher and a school envelope etc.

The extra-confusing part was that he told me he had checked the site in late October and it said everything was in. So, who knows what that means...Hopefully he hasn't missed the EA date. So many details, huh?

weenie, I know that many schools will notify applicants that pieces of their application are missing for regular decision, especially when it pieces from the school and not the student (although I am not as familiar with what is the norm for EA/ED or for highly selective schools), but maybe the fact that he received an email is a GOOD sign - that they want to see his application completed so he can stay in the running?

Something similar happened to my son last year when he applied regular and one of his teachers failed to send in a rec. In our case we received a letter giving us a deadline to get it in by and even then we were madly scrambling to get it faxed on time when we learned that the teacher had not completed it by the date we asked (the problem was the teacher, and not much we could do short of standing in front of him as he filled it out. Great guy and really great rec, but given my contacts with this individual I am inclined to believe that he may have ADD?). Anyway, although I felt that S's chances at being accepted had all but disappeared, he was accepted - and received a good merit award! Given the number of applications that NEU receives, I felt that they really went out of their way in our situation. So there is hope...good luck! I'm crossing my fingers for you!

Thank you scansmom for your encouraging words! Greatly appreciated!

I hope they start sending some out soon!

Me too! I checked last year's posts for EA and it looks like the earliest a person got it was around Dec. 24th. Looks like a long wait unless things have changed.

According to Scom they have already started sending out acceptances and that was on Nov. 15th.

^ correct, but I don't know when those students applied...they may not necessarily be EA applicants...

some of them may have been acceptances for spring 07 transfers...

I cannot wait that long- I'll probably have to, but I don't know if I can!

are decisions posted online before a letter is sent?

no, they don't post the decisions online before the letter

then when do they post it online?

There was a thread last year that did a lot of speculation on whether "grayed" or shaded or frozen boxes when you check your status online were possibly an indication of whether you were accepted or not... also some students were able to access their myneu student accounts before they actually received notice in the mail (accepted students have limited access to student accounts including access to a chat board where they could post questions about the school to current students); I believe my son was able to access his myneu account before he actually received his acceptance letter in the mail--although probably only a day or so beforehand. This thread pertained to regular decision applicants not EA so not sure if there's any difference to EA assuming there is anything to it:

Interesting thread scansmom. Greyed out boxes and list of documents disappearing....... anyone have that, or tried myneu?

it looks like I am unable to change my first/second major/school (GRAYED OUT).

but, my neu doesn't work for me, it keeps giving me an error message.

My boxes have been grayed out for at least 2 weeks; my list of received documents still shows though.

to add on to my last post my documents are still visible
