Appendix I

Caltech 130 215 60%
Cornell 790 2,988 26%

Harvard 902 1,650 55%
Johns Hopkins 220 920 24%

U. of Virginia 785 2,830 28%
Williams 460 545 36%
Yale 460 1,300 33%

but this is like 10 years ago...60 %....

For the class that entered Fall 2006: EA rate was 22% compared to 16%
for RD according to US News

It was also ~60% D - ~20% A - ~20% R for last year EA.
(Sorry I don't have any references)

Do those numbers mean the percenttage of people accepted early, or the percentage of the freshman class that applied early? If it's the former, wow. 60% admitted, that's ridiculous. In fact, just thinkin about that makes me belive it must be the latter.

The same page cited earlier from US News says 25% of the
enrolled class are made up of early applicants.....

:)

What I meant to say is that out of all people that applied EA to Caltech for the class of 2011, about 60% were deferred, 20% admitted and 20% rejected (this is the approximate distribution).

are you serious?? I checked the US news, and dang, a big percent of EAs are admitted. Except for MIT. I thought MIT had a high EA admit rate. Is this true??
Stanford having a 19% admit rate? Harvard with a 21%??
I am not convinced . . .
Stanford had a 9% and Harvard with like 8%
how 21 and 19?????

How many percent of the defferd are accepted?

wow, i'm kind of confused now... but anyway, i'll take the latest ea rate as around 20% (for caltech).. seems reasonable..

You have to remember, the EA pool is probably more self-selecting. Plus, you don't see applicants who want to go to a single-choice EA school (take Stanford for instance) or somewhere that's ED. So, for Caltech's EA pool, you're likely to find a group very dedicated to math, science, and engineering, a factor that the admissions committee here likes (go figure).
