EA and College Scholar Award

My S is an EA applicant... VERY excited about COW. He just got an email that he is being considered for The College Scholar Award because if his academic strength. He has to fill out an additional form and write a couple small essays. Does anyone know anything about this award? Do they send this to everyone? It is due by 1/1, so I guess he will not know anything about it when he hears back in Dec. on his EA app. When does merit scholarship notifications come?

I don’t know but that sounds great!!!

Thanks PN:D

My DD got one too. I called the school just to make sure she is legitimately qualified (she is 20 points off the SAT but she has a ridiculous GPA.) Anyway, the College Scholar Awards will come out on April 15. So, we have a long wait. Good luck!

April 15th?? WOW! That’s a LONG time… did they tell you that when you called? I wonder why it takes so long… I hope the FA info doesn’t take that long…

Yes, that’s what the guy (deputy director of admissions) said when I called, that the College Scholar award announcements will come out on April 15. I agree that it seems late but I think it’s not uncommon.

carol… where did you happen to find the range of stats that get this award? I couldn’t find it on the website My S is the opposite of your D… lower GPA, but ridiculous tests scores:)

I got those numbers from the merit scholarships section of their website:

Recommended minimum: Top 15% of class, ACT of a 29/SAT of a 1950

For what it’s worth, the website that 1960Carol mentions says the notification date for the College Scholar Award is April 1.

I received a similar email. I was told they took the first batch of EA applications and anyone that would qualify got the email. I got the mail 1 hour after the 11/15 deadline ended. It’s an automatic email mine came at 1:00 am with EA closing at midnight.

M D is working on her College Scholar essays too. (Hi, PinotNoir and 5boys!) Thanks for the information, all. I’m disappointed that the award notices will come out so late.

Hi to you back POF:) My S is working on his CS essays too… based on the past few years I think they will hear on that earlier than April… most people heard by the middle of March in past years.

It does say that the awards will be announced April 1; I was just reporting what the admissions person told me. I hope it’s sooner though!! When are acceptances expected?

Me too Carol! I think they tell you the latest date as possible so people don’t call a billion times:) I have no idea when they release EA decisions other than it is supposedly supposed to be before the holidays. I’m hoping soon… this waiting in the last few weeks is getting pretty tough to take.

Hi everyone!

I am a current freshman at the College of Wooster who has the College Scholar Award, so I thought I’d give some perspective about it. My high school stats were as followed: 2130 SAT, 3.92 UW, 5 AP’s, decent ECs, and good essays. The College Scholar Award replaced my 20k/year Dean’s Scholarship with a 22.5k/year Award. My understanding is that it can improve your Dean’s Scholarship up to a total of 25k/year. When I received my letter telling me that I had received it, it said that they gave out approximately 50 awards to about 500 applicants.

Wooster is truly an amazing school, I hope to see you here next year! Good luck with your applications!

Any idea when EA candidates will hear? My son already heard from all of his other EA schools.

The website says December 31 for EA decisions (and I had to do a keyword search of the website to find this!):

[First Year Applicants: Requirements and Deadlines | The College of Wooster](http://www.wooster.edu/admissions/apply/firstyear/)

My D’s admission counselor wrote her that Wooster is mailing out EA letters this Friday.

Son’s came in the mail today . Great Xmas present!!!
