EA and ED at the same time?

I really don't understand one thing about early applications- is it possible to apply to one school ED and others EA simultaneously? For instance, would I be able to apply to Penn ED and UChicago, Caltech and UMichigan EA within the same admissions cycle?

In general, you may only apply early decision to one institution. If you apply to both an early decision and an early action school, then you still must attend the ED school should you be admitted. I would check the admissions website of each of the schools you’re interested in to read up on their specific policies.

There is a fine print you need to read when you apply ED which MAY state you may not apply to anyone with EA or SCEA. Even some schools like Georetown with an open EA have created a rule stating that you may not apply to them if you apply ED elsewhere.

A Stanford adcom stated that one person was admitted SCEA at Stanford and ED at Columbia. They found out an revoked both admissions in 2011 applicant pool.

Some schools have restricted EA that says you can’t apply EA if applying ED elsewhere. Boston College has this for instance.
