EA Applicants and Financial Aid

So my dad is turning in the 2006 tax returns and the W-2 form before January 1st like BC asked. BC said that they would give me some preliminary financial aid decision sometime in January.

Do you guys know if the Financial Aid packages for BC are much better for the EA acceptees since we get the money first, or what?

also, does BC usually provide the needed amount similar to the EFC Calculator on Collegeboard.com?

say if my EFC calculator said i needed 26k, would BC provide all of this, or a little more because I got accepted EA?

the only thing that would deter my decision towards BC would be the financial aid package

bump 10 char

"Do you guys know if the Financial Aid packages for BC are much better for the EA acceptees since we get the money first, or what?"

I don't know how much of a different it makes. I turned in my renewal last summer a bit late (think May) but I got a pretty much the same financial aid like last year with some additional money to match the increased tuition.

"does BC usually provide the needed amount similar to the EFC Calculator on Collegeboard.com?"

No, it does not. BC factors in home value quite a bit when calculating financial aid so that tends to make your EFC higher than FAFSA's EFC if your family owns a home.

"say if my EFC calculator said i needed 26k, would BC provide all of this, or a little more because I got accepted EA?"

BC will only meet ITS OWN EFC estimation. It's a bummer. But if your family does need 26k according to BC's estimation, then it will meet it. A close friend from high school got 28k from BC grant alone.

I haven't used the EFC calculator on Collegeboard.com so I don't know how accurate its estimates are with respect to FAFSA/CSS profile that Boston College uses. However, I do have answers to your other questions:

BC's financial aid packages are based solely on need. It makes no difference whether the student is admitted EA or RD.

BC will give 100% of your demonstrated need (as BC calculates it). You certainly would not get anything more -- unless you get one of the full-tuition Presidential Scholarships that are not need-based.
