Who else applied EA? I figured I should start a thread where we can talk about the applications, scores, and other things!

My D sent app last week. Also applying for Honors Fellows.

That’s cool! I’m still working on my application! I don’t have the scores for honors though. What are her stats like?

GPAw 4.4 all honors and AP classes at competitive Catholic HS. ACT 33. Two sport varsity athlete.

Bigdaddy, your daughter has similar stats to my daughter who is a freshman honors fellow at Elon this year. So far she has been very happy. Best of luck to you and your daughter.

mnm11, so glad to hear that. Elon is pretty high on my D’s list. We can only attend if she is selected as an Honors Fellow.

During our college tours we made it a point to meet with our admissions counselors. Some of the counselors really seemed to understand how difficult it is to take a rigorous course load and do well, get great standardized test scores all while competing in two demanding varsity sports. However, Elon was not one that I had a good feeling about after our meeting.

So, I’m not overly optimistic.

My daughter will be applying EA tonight. Elon is her top school but she’s a high match when it comes to standardized test scores. She has a very good GPA with 5 AP classes and tons of strong EC’s. She’s worried. Also, the PDF application says the essay should be approximately 500 words. Yet the online application says 550…what up with that? Anyway, fingers are crossed.

Good luck guru. I think a great essay will be all it takes for your D to secure a spot in next year’s class.

My D liked Elon a lot more then I thought she would. My guess is that she will attend IF she is awarded an Honors Fellowship.

My D applied ED. Her SATs and GPA seem to place her solidly in the middle of Elon’s students. I think she has a great essay. She’s a 3 sport athlete with other extra curricular activities and interests at a competitive independent school. I think she would be a great fit at Elon and thrive there; I hope they will think so, too!

Thanks Bigdaddy88! We visited both Elon and High Point this past summer. Both visits were excellent but I don’t want to get into the Elon v. HP debate. Just think Elon would be a better fit for her. Anyway, her essay was very good but I think she really nailed her personal statement. Even her GC said it’s the best she’s seen.

Sounds good. The personal statement is key. Of all the schools we visited, Elon seems to really want students who want to be there and understand what it means to be an Elon student. That can really be solidified in the personal statement.

Suffice it to say we visited Elon, High Point, Davidson and Furman in one trip and HPU is the only school off the list…

I sent my ED app in just over a week ago. I have visited campus as well as met with my regional several times closer to home. I also visited HPU on my trip to see Elon and like some other people in the thread it has since been taken off my list.

I know several people at Elon and they all love it, so now the waiting game begins.

my son is applying EA, his stats are a bit above the higher range of Elon students, but he didn’t visit and I know that does play a part at Elon. A representative came to his high school and he did meet with her there and send a thank you note so we will see. We had to draw the line somewhere on all the visits and figured ones where he was a solid candidate (higher SAT/GPA then their stats was the place to do it)?

^^^His stats were higher than what? 50th percentile? 75th percentile?

My son (a senior now) applied EA without visiting. Also met rep who visited school. He was accepted and visited later for the Fellows weekend. (don’t remember his stats)

Bigdaddy88 higher then the high end of their avg. So on the website Elon states that the SAT mid range was 1740-1960 (his SAT’s are higher then 1960). The site say’s the middle 50% had a 3.5 - 4.0 and his GPA is higher then a 4.0. So…… not sure what % higher, but certainly think he fits what they are asking for right?

Moment,

Yup. That puts his stats above the 75th%. He will most definetly be admitted. Too bad you couldn’t visit.

well if there is one thing I have learned through this overwhelming process it is that nothing is definite. I always say, “on paper he should get in, but that means just about nothing” Having not been to the school it’s not one of his top choices, of course his top choices are all the reaches, but I have done extensive research and think it is a college on the rise and has all the makings for a great education and a great 4 years. He is hoping to get into one of his reaches and if not and if he gets in here then we will certainly go visit before making a decision. I have heard wonderful things about the school and the student body.

No doubt that much of the admissions process is like voodoo. I would say that schools like Elon are trying to boost their profile. If that is true, then they will be more inclined to accept almost all high stat applicants.

My D is also solidly in the top 10% of all admitted students. We visited the school and we both really liked it. IF she is invited to the Fellows Weekend and is awarded one of the Honors Fellowships, She will most likely attend. Without that scholarship, there is no possibility of attending.

S is at Elon. I’m indifferent about it so far, I think they reached their peak already. They have too many “just graduated” people working there, they are no more ready to run certain ares of the school than the current students.
