EA at Harvard or Wharton?

I agree. Accounting isn't so bad. Like economics...

Do you guys know our Canadian universities? Ivey from University of Western Ontario, or Queen's School of Business, or University of Toronto's Rotman School? Shouldn't just go there instead of maxing out 40k or whatever to go to Wharton?

I learned the history of economics, which to me, was borning. But, I do enjoy classes that talk about the practical application of business principles. I also like math (lol).

ecsteveo32, can you elaborate how great are the canadian Uni...how much are their fees...why canadian not wharton?

mahras, just shut it! we dont need a junior from bronx science with a 91 average who somehow got an internship at a hedge fund to talk about the difference between harvard and wharton. the guy wants to know the difference, so give him your honest opinion, (which you have none, since you are still a little kid) so you have your eyes set on Wharton? let me tell you you have no chance in hell of getting in, period. the fact of the matter is, you don't go around in all these forums telling college graduates how i banking works when you are just a 16 year old and have never applied to college.

so yea, no more sarcastic comments from you please.

If you are going to attack use correct info: 91.59 is the GPA
And please you forget the rest of my ECs (two of which I would consider more valuable than the internship). As you seem to know so much about me (rather stalkerish btw) you should have no problem with the rest.

BTW I understand I have "no chance in hell, period". But judging by your past posts you seem to have applied SEAS ED. And I am going to make an assumption that you go to bxscience judging by your location and the fact that you say you go to "one of the best science/math schools in the country".

Bitter perhaps knowing you got deferred/rejected huh? (no one from bxscience got in)

again...this stat is without a source

"The Wharton School, which had an acceptance rate of 13.6 percent -- down from 15.2 percent last year -- saw a more significant change. The admitted students numbered 484 -- 9 fewer than last year."

I know, I know. But doesn't UPenn not sound as profound and emphatic as a Harvard? Maybe ED to Harvard is better... I don't want to learn economics :(

Well, you see Canadian universities are among the best educations in the world. Probably second or third to US and UK. University of Toronto, York University, and The Ivey School of UWO are ranked 21, 24, 34th best in the world for MBA in 2006 by financial times.
While in previous years, Queen's University's MBA has been ranked as #1 business school outside of US and Ivey as 16th overall.

So Canadian universities do have some prestige. But it's too easy getting in (for undergrads, at least). Higher than a 85% average and some EC's and your in.

Not enough of a challenge for me. Do you know what I mean?

mahras, sorry about the animated comments... i was just a little ticked by youtr comment... thats all... i mean, who are you to say if someone wouldn't last 10 years in i banking or woulnt get into harvard/ wharton? maybe the guy needs very little sleep, maybe the guy has a 4.0/2400/made fortune as a venture capitalist using his uncles money. you just shouldnt assume, thats what i was trying to tell you. Don't tell people they wont last 10 years in i banking when they are looking for some insights on the subject area. again, sorry if i offended you. but you did sound a little arrogant...

A lot of you guys make me sad.

Pimp> I sorry if I came of as arrogant however that was not my goal. I doubt I would last in ibanking for 10 years or get into Wharton or Harvard. For the first case with the retirement issue I just tried to refocus the guys attention to the fact that he first needs to get himself through the door before even worry about retirement. You think I assume ;). As for this poster, I was peeved at how he seemed to have this elitist standpoint. I strongly believe one should set out to create these X vs. X threads (particularly when the probability of getting accepted is so low as with the ivies) once when the OP gets into the colleges themselves.

Pimp, mahras is very well informed about the Investment Banking field. He prolly knows more than you would learn in your entire career.

wow, you guys debate a lot over this issue. I'm facing the same problem. Stanford, Berkeley or Wharton for business major. I would not leave cali, for my girlfriend is here. so would I go with Stanford or Berkeley for business undergrad.

The bigger issue is not which school, but whether you should choose a university based on a significant other's location.

I personally don't think that's a good idea.

If you wanted to study business Wharton would be a much better choice than either of those two (unless financial aid is a really huge issue and you get lots of money at Berkeley).

This is a bit off topic, but relevant to quickflood and whartonalum's comments about college and significant others. Up until August of this year, I was strongly considering attending WVU because that's where my boyfriend was going. However, relationships DO end and now Penn is my top choice, a school I really wasnt looking at due to distance issues.

Let's just say that four months later, I couldn't be happier the relationship ended and I had a bit of sense knocked into me.

yeah, I'm afraid of breaking up. I don't know what I'm going to do, I'm still a junior so I got another year to see where I'm going. my girlfriend is already in college though, and we seem to have a VERY strong relationship.
anyway, sorry for the digressing the topic, keep on with the discussion with Wharton and what makes CEOs successful. you guys really have some interesting comments. I wonder are business people usually more unscrupulous than others, cheating on their wives?

one more question, how is econ major different from business undergrad?

And never put your gf's pics in your yearbook spread either.

Or you could get lucky and have a high school girlfriend who gets accepted into an Ivy only an hour away from an Ivy you are accepted to :) cough :):)

Although significant others do limit things a bit... if I had chosen to go to Yale instead of Penn, for example (the main tough decision I was facing), I probably would not be with my girlfriend anymore. Or at least, the relationship would be weakened. My advice is to not have a high school girlfriend to be safe :P
