ACT: 31 composite (33M, 31S, 31W, 30R)
GPA: 3.6 UW; 4.2/5.0 W (this is what makes me doubtful) (my GPA according to my school is 3.85/4.0 W)
Rank: top 17%~20% (school doesn’t rank, this is a guess; also, my hs inflates the GPA, meaning students in lower classes can have high GPAs)
AP: USH(4); Lang(3); Chem(3) (this was extremely unexpected, not that it matters)

edit: i just realized my title doesnt really make sense…but you know what i mean

Your GPA is a little lower than it should be for BC if the 3.6 is correct. Not sure how the school says your uw GPA is higher than you calculate. The discrepancy of .25 is a lot. If one assumes that your school is correct, you are in the “match” range for BC given your SAT score. I would keep the volunteering at various cultural events in place. It shows an effort towards helping the community and will add to your CS hours.

Having a D who attends BC I can tell you that they are not very generous at all with their financial aid so, if you should be accepted, please don’t go into huge debt in order to attend. NYU, your sister’s school, doesn’t give good aid either. Was she able to get good need-based aid or does she have big loans to repay?

My sister was extremely smart, so she got half tuition at NYU and she only dormed her freshman year (she’s now a senior). I’m pretty sure she got a lot of fin. aid as well as loans. As far as I know, my mom pays 3k per semester.

What the 3.6 is is my GPA based on A+/A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, so it’s UW on 4.0.
But, my school has some ridiculous weights and they insist that the 3.85 is a weighted GPA on 4.0. Essentially, each level is weighted. An A in an honors/AP class will be slightly higher than an A in a basic leveled class. It’s weird. However, the way my school does GPA is, for lack of a better term, stupid. Kids in lower leveled classes have the ability to have a 4.0+. If they maintain straight As, they will have a higher GPA than an all honors/AP student who maintains B+/A- average. And usually every year, the valedictorian turns out to be someone who just aced all their basic-leveled classes.
