Hi, I’m a half-Korean, half-white in-state male student attending a public high school in southern Georgia and I wanted to see other people’s opinion of my stats.
Major: Mathematics
SAT I (breakdown): 1490 (790M/700CR) I’m retaking this definitely
Unweighted GPA: 3.2/4.0
Weighted GPA: 3.5/4.0 I know my GPA is beloooooow average for Georgia Tech standards, but I still have hope. My freshman year killed me but my junior year I got all As. I’m also taking some MOWR classes over the summer to help this.
AP: AP Calculus AB, AP Physics I, APES, APUSH
Senior Year Course Load: I plan to take AP Chemistry, AP Psychology, AP Government, AP Statistics. ENG 1101, and two band classes (I play flute and oboe, but I’m going to also learn clarinet). I also plan to take AP Calculus BC online through Georgia virtual school because AP Calc AB is the highest math class my school offers.
Awards: GHP Semi-finalist (Math), MathCON national competition qualifier, All South Region Honor Band (flute), Highest Pre-calulus average award, Highest AP Calculus AB average award
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Math Team (captain for 3 years), Science Olympiad, Quizbowl, Envirothon (will be captain this year), Marching Band (Flute section leader this year),
Volunteer/Community service: My school has a program where participants bring in non-perishable goods, bag them, and give them to students in need. I’ve done this every week my junior year and I plan to do it all my senior year. Our school also has a Student Ambassadors team (#2 in the state this previous year), but everyone else is welcome to tag along with them and get community service as well.
Essays: I feel like my main essay will be very good. I have an English major helping me work on it.
Recommendations: I can get an excellent recommendation from one of my teachers. She has three daughters at Georgia Tech already.
Questions: Should I take the SAT II for math? I could definitely get close to an 800 easily.
Also, my mother went to college in South Korea and got a degree. Would that make me not first-generation? Because no one else in my family went to college.
