anyone think i have any shot? =/ i also have 3 alum if that helps?

I’d say its a high reach. VSB is the most competitive school within Villanova and your SAT scores are below average. However, the three alum definitely helps. A smaller, more money-needy school like Villanova definitely pays more attention to applicants with alumni than other schools. To really help your chances, bump up the SAT scores and write a perfect essay.

Yeah, I just took the SATS so I’ll see what happens there. I’m hoping for atleast 20 points that way I can be at 1200 which still is low, but atleast I’m breaking 1200. Also, I had multiple people read my essay, including my guidance counselor, and it was perfect when I submitted it. Thank you for your comments!

Good luck to you jerseyT. My D is also applying EA. After alot of college visits and searching, Villanova is her top choice:

Does she have a chance?

Thanks N&MsMom! I hope I get in. Villanova is my #1 choice also. I absolutely love it there! Anyway, I think your daughter has a pretty good chance, or it looks that way to me. Although both she & I do not have the best SAT scores everything else looks pretty well-rounded. Also, if she wants to go into the Nursing field, I believe that she may have a better chance to get in than myself because I’m pretty sure VSB is the most competitive school to get into when applying to Villanova, but I’m not totally positive. The only thing I think could help her is if she took challenging science courses just because she wants to go into the Nursing field so it will show she has a great background in a medical type field, as long as she did well in those classes. But like I said, I’m not really too sure since I’m a Senior myself and stressing out about this all! Best of luck to her though! Let me know if she gets in!! One last thing…what other schools did she apply to?

Thanks jerseyT. My D is also applying to:

University of Virginia
Vanderbilt (her reach)
Gettysburg College
Miami University of Ohio
St. Mary’s College of Maryland
Mount St. Mary’s University

She’s strong in science, especially biology. I made a mistake on her GPA it is 3.76 UW and 4.4 W.

Like you she’s stressed with regular schoolwork. Plus she’s taking the ACT this weekend. She’s 85% finished with the Common App essay and hasn’t even started the Villanova supplement essay. She has a couple of ideas and is a very good writer.

Keep faith! only a couple more weeks until the deadline. It will be a relief to finally apply.

Oh wow! Those are great schools! I have 2 friends who go to Gettysburg and 1 who really liked UV, but went to Lehigh instead.

She seems to be in good shape with the biology as long as she’s done really well and likes the material. Also, I think both of our weighted and unweighted GPAs are pretty comprable. Does her school weigh their GPAs on a 6.0 scale? Just curious because that’s what my school does.

Yeah, I’m just trying to keep my mind clear and hope that I get into Nova. Ah the CommonApp, if you haven’t figured it out already, that can be quite a bit time consuming, but it’s great cause it covers all aspects/qualities that need to be addressed. Also, hopefully she begins to work on the Villanova supplement soon. I myself spent around 6-7 hours just writing the rough draft and then revised for hours so it was exactly how I wanted it.

I’m going to try to keep faith! I applied 3 weeks ago, and the wait is becoming even more stressful. Hopefully, in the end, we’ll both have positive outcomes.

n&m’s mom: You mentioned that Vanderbilt was your daughter’s reach. Agreed, but UVA is in the stratosphere for her. As an oos student, unless she is a recruited athlete, with those SAT scores it is just not happening…the other choices on your list are more in the realm of
possibility…be real with your daughter and yourself and everyone will be much happier in the long run…

jerseyT- I’d say it’s a definite reach… but of course there’s a chance!

take the SATs again and hit 1300
or take the ACTs and get like a 29
