Live in NJ, Caucasian, About 40 hours community service

Few people from my school apply to UMich, and those that do rarely get accepted. Nobody got accepted last year, including some of my fairly intelligent friends. I'm mainly worried about my extracurriculars.

Opinions? Thank you.

Idk. Your grades are really solid, very solid, but your ECs are lacking and you are OOS. Plus you’ll just be another white dude

You could get in, but no guarantees

You GPA is higher than average students, but your SAT scores are only average and you need some more ECs. Try to think outside of academic activities. Do you play a sport, fish, help your grandparents at their shop or something? Include as much as you can and it can only help you.

I’d say U of M is a low reach at the moment. A match if you can raise the SAT score to 2150+

I forgot to include that I’ve worked about 7 hours a week for a part time job since sophomore year, which could help. And I suppose I could put my community service as an extracurricular, since I’ve been doing it weekly Senior year.

What about my ACT score, though? Doesn’t that make up for the lowish SAT score? Should I even send my SATs (unless my pending one is significantly higher)?

Missed the ACTS. I’d definitely send in the ACTs instead. They’re in the high averages for U of M acceptances if I remember correctly and will be fine. And see the other ECs will def help ;D GL

I would send in both the ACT and the SAT. The ACT has a low reading score but I think the composite is higher. I think the scores are high enough and don’t think higher scores will add much. I would say you are a match for U-M.

Thanks for the replies. In response to the low reading score, I did take the ACT’s another time, and while the composite was a 31, the reading was a (slightly higher) 28. Do you think I should submit this score set as well?

Again, thank you in advance.
