EA Chances - Notre Dame, UVA, UF, UChicago

Just asking for a quick estimate of my chances at these schools before I apply EA this week.

Notre Dame, University of Virginia, University of Florida, University of Chicago

SAT: 2230 (770 reading, 690 math, 770 writing)
SAT II: 740 US History
ACT: 32 (36E, 29M, 35R, 27S)
3.95 UW GPA, will have taken 10 AP's total (6 senior year)
while male from small christian private in FL. Rarely/never sends to top schools (other than UF)

ECs:
Varsity Swim Team: Captain, All-State Finalist, MVP 2012. 25 hours/week (!)
Camp Promise/Best Buddies: Vice President
Photography Club: Founder&President
NHS: President
Class Officer: Treasurer

I'm writing my common app essay about photography. On the activities section, I list accomplishments under photography (different than club): Photography exhibited at W Hotel in Chicago and various online galleries, have sold prints, people pay me to take portraits.

600+ community service hours

Thanks in advance!

UChicago: reach (as is for 99%+ of applicants)
ND: high match/low reach
UVA: high match, low reach
UF: low match/safety (are you a FL resident)

You are perfectly fine to be honest. Work hard on the UChicago essays because they put alot of weight on them. Chance me please

If you can make a great essay for UofC, then it becomes reachable.

Bump bump bump, bump to the top

You look good for U Chicago and Notre Dame. In the case of UVA and UF whether or not you are OOS will make all the difference.

Chicago- high match/ low reach (as good as it gets of UC)
UF- safety
UVA- match to high match
ND- match

Chance me back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569950-chance-me-please.html</a></p>

ND probably more of a reach. Your Math subscore is on the low end of the middle 50%. I realize that is a little picky, but ND is picky. Daughter applied EA last year with 720M + 740CR and was deferred. Her EC’s were broader and deeper than yours as well, and her GPA slightly higher. I would really put work into your essays for both ND and U of C. She applied OOS to UVA as well RD and was accepted with SAT II’s that were nowhere near yours, so I would almost think even OOS that UVA would be more likely. My daughter was ultimately accepted to ND and chose South Bend over Charlottesville.

^ thank you! that’s probably the greatest chancing ever, because it’s actually well-based.

I guess I won’t expect too much with ND then.

Please don’t think that I meant you don’t have a chance. ND will probably be a stretch though. If you haven’t already, and I realize it is close to the EA deadline, contact your regional admissions rep and ask whether in his/her opinion you should apply EA. They may indicate you should wait until the RD round, which would give you another opportunity to test, if you wanted to, as well as work on your essays. If you can make your supplemental essays sing, that will help. ND is one of those places that really tries to admit people who “get” what the school is about, and the supplement allows you to show that you do. The risk you run at ND is that they do deny people in the EA round, whereas some schools will just defer all non-admits to RD. Last year there were multiple denials for every deferral.

My daughter did get in EA last year to ND. I would echo what ejcclc says about asking your regional rep whether you should apply EA or RD. They are allowed to answer that. I would imagine your EC’s would be attractive, ND likes varsity athletes, and you have a deep interest and obvious skill in your photography. Your short blurb makes you sound very likeable. You said you have 600 hours of community service, what in?

Your test scores are a bit lopsided, but show a strength in the verbal arenas. However, ND doesn’t look at the writing score on the SAT, so that makes it a 1460. If you wait to apply, retaking the SAT and getting a higher math score might help. I think ND does superscore.

As far as the other schools you listed, I have no idea. My daughter didn’t apply to any of them.
