Instate, rising senior
GPA (on UGA's scale)- 3.84, but with a significant upward trend, all my B's came freshman year, except for 1 B in an academic elective soph year

4 AP's thru junior year: AP Human (4, damn you lazy freshman-self), AP World (5), AP USH (5), AP Lang (5)

I have 5 AP's my senior year: Calc BC, Chemistry, English Lit, Econ, Government

All of my other classes throughout high school were honors, except for math in 9th and 10th grade.

SAT 2230
CR: 800
M: 700
W:730

I have some average EC's, but I don't think that's looked at EA anyway.

You shouldn’t have any trouble getting into UGA.

GO DAWGS!!!

I’d be very surprised if you didn’t get in EA.

^^Agree with the above two posters. I would be very surprised if you did not get into EA. In fact, with that SAT, would you not be competitive for the Honors Program as well? Or is Your GPA slightly below average!

Btw, Dusterbug, is UGA one of your top choices? Just curious.

^ It’s up there, top 3 or 4 for sure. UGA’s male-female ratio is HIGHLY enticing haha. I’m only really interested in publics because I want a large school and athletics, and I just don’t buy into the hype of top schools. If I decide to do pre-med it would be my first choice.

Why would it be your first choice if you decide to do pre med? I’m only a rising HS junior, but I already know I’ll be pre med, and UGA is my top choice right now. I was just wondering why it would be your top choice.

Have you ever considered their Honors Program? I’ve heard really good things about it… All my friends who have been in it have liked it… Search for vig180’s posts on this forum for more info about it.

It’d be my first choice because I’m instate and with HOPE it would basically be free, and UGA is pretty respected academically for a public but it wouldn’t be insane difficulty like at GA Tech. And the male-female ratio is another somewhat important factor, I don’t plan on having any regrets about college life lol, on top of UGA being a top party school. But I don’t have any ultra specific reasons for UGA, it would just be a good fit, cheap, and fun while not putting me at any major disadvantages in med school admissions (if I do end up doing med school).

I haven’t seriously looked at Honors yet, I don’t know if my stats will be good enough due to my low-ish GPA, even though my upward trend helps. And I don’t know if I will do it, I don’t really want to be around nerdy-types all the time, and if the honors classes would hurt my GPA I don’t know if it would be worth it. I suppose I’ll look into it further though.

You should apply to Honors (although, with your stats, you may be auto-admitted). Your GPA is a bit low but your SAT is right in the range for Honors. I’d recommend taking a look around the Honors website and searching this forum to find some more information on benefits.

The consensus is that Honors classes have (significantly) higher average GPAs than regular classes (FWIW).

Yeah, Dusterbug, those are are a lot of the same reasons I think UGA is a good fit for me as well… Hopefully I can get an SAT score as high as yours!
