Will MIT look at the biology score in context of the fact that I've only had biology for one quarter this year, or will that score hurt? I'm going to take the physics test on Dec 6, and I'll take the Math IIc again while I'm at it because I know I could get the 800. Those scores should help, should I get deferred.

I'm pretty sure my second choice is Olin College, followed by Stanford, Cornell, Harvey Mudd, and a few safeties like WPI that I actually wouldn't mind attending.

dude, I kind of want to commiserate with you -- we now have almost the exact same stats. same exact SAT score (for each section) one okay-but-not-hot SAT 2 and one really good one. and your second choice is mine too.

therefore, I really hope you get in. because maybe if you do...there may be hope for me yet :o

All other things aside, where do you guys think I would stand with a 740 M, 680 CR, 790 W - 2210, and 770 M2 and 710 Chem. With all else aside would I qualify as "academically qualified" and stand a decent chance?

that's good, obviously it's only one part of the app but I was a little disappointed to find out I got a 680 in CR today. Plus, my 740 in math was with only 2 wrong (I HATE collegeboard). And too bad they don't consider the writing section! (1420 otherwise, I can live with that though)

battletops- me too! It sucks to know they don't consider writing, when my writing was much better than my reading (760 vs. 690-although I am quite happy with the 690).

You SHOULD be in, i cannot say that you WILL be in because nobody can accurately estimate MIT acceptance chances. I have also also applied to MIT this year in the EA round and we both share similar statistics except for the SAT reasoning and higher subject scores. My letter of recommendation was also written by a teacher who wrote a stellar letter for a Harvard admit.

You might want to take the subject test again because your projected score IS quite low and MIT pays close attention to subject test scores even more than the reasoning test scores (as far as what i have heard). However, SAT scores are not deal-breakers or makers, they don't help you nor hurt you but they are important for competition among other applicants.

In the end i would say that MIT looks for students with passion and superb personal qualities and not just a bunch of science nerds.

I hope this helps we both see each other at MIT next year.
