Ea + Chances!!

1.) I am planning on applying EA to Michigan and I need to know first

--WHEN DOES THE NEW APP COME OUT + WHEN SHOULD I APPLYING CONSIDEREING I AM OUT OF STATE AND THUS I WANT TO GET MY APP IN THE EARLIEST?----

First, I would like to say that I am a male, asian indian from NJ. For a quick glance at my academic stats, I have an SAT I of 1480 and SAT IIS of Math IIC - 800, IC- 760, Bio- 790, Physics- 790, Latin- 750, Writing- 640 and I am finishing with 8 AP classes - BIO, Chem, Phys B, Statistics, BC Calc, AB Calc, Latin: Vergil, and Eng Lang. In addition, I have great extra-curriculars which I do not feel like expounding and also solid grades with a solid average of about an 88 at a top distinguished boarding high school at Deerfield Academy. At my school, around 33% of the graduating classes get accepted into ivy leagues although most are athletes, legacies, and URMS. However, my average is on target for some of the top universities.

Currently, although I had been accepted to several great colleges including Vanderbilt, Bowdoin, and others, my luck did not fare out at Michigan, a school I truly want to attend beyond its academic caliber and name. However, I did not apply early and instead applied near the deadline, and thus got waitlisted.

Currently, I am taking a year off/abroad. I had decided early during the summer before senior year that I would take a year off to go do research work and community service at a medical college in India. And thus, I probably will give my shot at applying Early decision this fall to one of the best colleges in addition to a few more regular decision colleges. I had thought of applying ED to Cornell which has the highest ED rate for ivies, but perhaps you guys can provide me better and useful feedback.

Once again, I really appreciate the help you provide in these forums. Also, just reading about the schools and about other people gives me an impression of where I stand and where I should aim for.

Thanks.

There is no EA or ED at Michigan. Michigan has rolling admissions. So in essence, the earlier you apply, the better off you are. I am guessing what hurt you is your GPA. A 3.4 GPA will hurt you at Michigan. And next year, Michigan is going to be even more selective because the last two classes have been about 1,000 freshmen too large. So next year, Michigan will probably accept 1,000 students less than usual.

If you apply sometime in early September, I think ytour chances are decent, but you never know.

I am hoping my GPA will be considered differently considering the caliber of my school. For example, freshman year, I went to a good prep, Jesuit school in which i got a 4.2/4.2 GPA and took really hard classes to sustain the top three grades in the class. However, at Deerfield, a 90-93 average is the range for Harvard acceptees. I just want to clarify my GPA.

Wait a minute, you said in other threads that you were accepted at Mich, but you didnt want to attend because Cornell was your dream school, so you were taking a year off to reapply to Cornell. Almost the exact same post as this, but with Michigan in the admitted list w/ Vandy and Bowdoin, and Cornell replacing Mich. So which is it? The way to get the most out of these forums is honesty, because then we can best help you.

Strange... if you have applied once and got in before.. why bother asking again???

one word - WOW
