That’s true. I’ll make sure I do that. I forgot to send my SAT somehow. I was confident I did but I’ll message my rep when I get my scores in. I watched their “The Domain” video when I was checking my portal. I feel like I’ve watched that video a few times but why is the campus so incredible? And why aren’t more colleges surrounded by nature preserves?

@Jmbakh, yes, it really is a breathtakingly beautiful campus. And the videos don’t even do it justice. They have an outing club that conducts all sorts of excursions. They let students check-out equipment so they can experience different activities (like rock climbing, kayaking, etc) without having to buy their own gear. My D is a freshman at Sewanee and loves it. She’s not even the outdoorsy type, yet she has discovered the joys of hiking to waterfalls, star gazing, and reading in an eno under a tree. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

@Jmbakh Just a note, don’t give up on them or anywhere else like Grinnell. Who knows why some colleges accept or reject certain students. You might be exactly what Grinnell or Sewannee or Bates or ______ wherever wants. My son’s best friend was rejected at his #3 school and given a nice scholarship by his 1st and 2nd choice. Go for it!

Oh, and to answer the question. My D applied EA 2 weeks ago, as well. We are in south Georgia.

@shellybean thanks for the encouragement and good luck! I feel like I’m applying to enough schools that at least one will take me(especially considering the Texas ones are auto admit) I’m going to really think about it and talk to my guidance counselor before doing ED again. I think I can handle a second rejection but I’m just unsure I want to limit my choices.

^^^ Not wanting to limit your choices, especially if you need significant financial aid, is definitely something to consider. I would recommend keeping all your options open until you have all of your financial aid offers in hand.

That’s definitely a good point. I feel like my financial situation is pretty straightforward though. We have nothing in savings or any other hidden money. Still it’s nice to compare offers. I’d assume price calculators would be accurate for my situation and I’m looking at 100 percent need met schools but still it could be risky.

D received an email from Sewanee this morning stating they have received the highest number of applications ever, and asking prospective students to clarify their intentions as to whether Sewanee is among the student’s top choices, and scheduling a visit to campus if this hasn’t occurred yet. It sounds like they are trying to move their decision timetable up a bit in order to manage their yield, and apportion their aid funds appropriately. @dadof1 , wondering if you received something similar?
@MidwestDad, we got the same email. We did visit, D wrote thank you notes, etc., but I guess one more email in response would not hurt. It is my D’s top choice as well.
@Jmbakh, since you are in TX, did you apply to Southwestern? Seems like a great LAC just outside of Austin. We will visit soon, my D got nice merit aid there.
@fortnight, is your D also still interested in Agnes Scott? I think its a fantastic school, great location, we got excellent merit, but D is not sold quite yet on a women’s college. Are you attending Scholars Weekend in March? We hope to .
Good luck all, guess we wait a while longer!
@4kids4college I haven’t but I like the school. I started an application for Southwestern, Austin College, and Trinity. They all offer generous merit and I really like all three. The only thing is I’m not very confident in their financial aid. The majority of schools I am applying to meet full need or come very close to that. I’m just worried because all three have high graduate indebtedness and I’ve heard a couple stores of big drops in aid after the first year at Trinty. I might still apply if it’s possible and they are definitely great schools. I’m just really trying to keep debt low because I’m hoping to make it to graduate school. Oh and I got the email too.
@Midwestdad3 We too received the Sewanee email, and D will respond with an affirmative email. I suspect their reason for extending the deadline is as you intimated… increasing yield. I also wonder about finances coming into play, since I think the FAFSA deadline is a few weeks before the new notification date.
I think maybe a lot of “top tier” students think of Sewanee as a “safety” school. They are applying to (and wanting to attend) schools like Wake Forest, Davidson, Washington and Lee, Vanderbilt,UVA etc. Sewanee does not want to accept an inordinate number of students who have no intention of going there. That is why demonstrated interest in Sewanee is so important to them. They want to know that you really “get” Sewanee. It’s not for everyone. But the people that work there and the students that go there absolutely love it and they want people who are enthusiastic about Sewanee too. They especially like prospective students to visit. My daughter visited last summer and again in the Fall so that she could attend some classes and do an overnight. She applied ED and got in! The acceptance letter and video they sent her when she was accepted was unbelievable…As a mom who has been through this college ap process a time or two, I was blown away. YSR!
Did anyone get an email from sewanee admissions inviting you to apply for the Benedict Scholarship? How many generally people apply for this scholarship every year? and How many people does sewanee invite to apply for it?
^ According to the Sewanee website, “an applicant who applies Early Decision or Early Action will be considered for Sewanee’s full range of scholarships. Therefore, there is neither a separate application nor a separate deadline to be considered for scholarships.”
I interpret this to mean that the pool of potential recipients of the Benedict Scholarship (and only 2 are awarded annually) consists of everyone who applies ED or EA; and that the school does not specifically invite persons to apply.
No they have to invite you to apply. They emailed me and sent me a link to the application.
^ that is only for the benedict scholarship though i think
You might want to call your admissions counselor and clarify the matter with him or her.
Anyone received EA notification yet? There’s a tweet on Sewanee admission’s Twitter account saying that acceptances are already signed and sent out (I think, not sure about the “sent out” part, but I saw that tweet several days ago and I assume that all were mailed already.)
Will international students receive their admission decisions through email?
I saw that tweet @evelynne 1996 - It said the letters were being signed, nothing about sent yet but it must be soon! Looks like they tweeted when ED letters were sent earlier in December. Good luck all!
Good luck everyone!
