Couldn’t help but notice that Sunday’s great photo of the Sewanee acceptance letters waiting to be signed was quickly superseded on the Twitter account by a photo of the new weight room (“wait” room???).
A subliminal message here, maybe? Some wry college humor? Guess I won’t be standing out by the mailbox today . . .
The Sewanee Admissions Facebook page indicates that acceptances for domestic EA applicants are being mailed out today, and that decisions can be viewed on the Applicant’s Status Page tonight. Good luck everyone!
@Overtheedge that’s interesting, but this year they are requiring it. I don’t like the fee and I hope it doesn’t take too long for Sewanee to receive the CSS. My financial situation is very simple though so it’s not a probably getting it done.
Last year the merit news came in a separate letter a week after D received her acceptance. Did they tell you when you’ll find out about merit scholarships?
Just looked at merit info on Sewanee website, top scholarship (other than 2 full rides) is $15k and NPC result (which supposedly included merit) was dismal for us - like $5k hope that’s wrong!
@4kids I think our estimated merit aid was 10K. Very low compared to Sewanee’s peers. I think the college would say that the stable tuition price makes up for the low merit aid number, but this wouldn’t be true in our situation.
We had a similar NPC result @4kids4colleges in which the merit was lower than the other NPCs where D has been accepted & received merit. We’re hoping it’s off, too! Of course, Sewanee is a bit less expensive than some other similar schools due to their price cut several years back, and they’re holding tuition firm for 4 years. Still, $45K (NPC) is a lot!
As a side note, I saw a comment on another thread that said some parents would rather send their child to a $60K school with a $30K merit award, than one with a sticker of $30K. Made me wonder which college pricing strategies are most successful, and which demographics they are aimed at. In general we found that everything seems to get more expensive as you shift towards the northeast.
My D got into Sewanee as well. She also received a Wilkins Scholarship. This is a merit award, independent of financial aid, right? So we can use it toward our EFC? I know at some schools you can.
I also was notified about the $15,000 per year Wilkins Scholarship. I have also applied for the Tuition Exchange scholarship at Sewanee and wonder if this is a good sign or not. Has anyone in the past received the Wilkins Scholarship and then not received a Tuition Exchange scholarship
