ED or EA
My D has gotten EA admission at NEU in Cellular and Molecular Biology major with Deans Scholarship. Her mid term grades are pretty good with all As. Could she email her counselor to reconsider her admission into honors college? (kind of an appeal). My daughter doesn’t want to. So could parents email NEU counselor? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I would think an email from a parent would not reflect well on the students maturity level
Ok. Thanks for the input @quinntheeskimo
Oh goodness, don’t contact admissions @cc4help. I just read a do’s and don’ts from the University of Rochester admissions officers, who flat out said that overbearing parents reflect badly on applicants. Said they wouldn’t want to deal w/ that for 4 years. Can’t imagine university would.
I see! Thanks! @MomOutWest
Has anyone contacted Northeastern regarding financial aid? I received a merit scholarship, but it just isn’t enough for my family. Are they lenient on financial aid?
@snk153 Did you submit the FAFSA and CSS Profile on time? Is there a financial aid tab on your portal?
I saw that they’re having a “Northeastern University College of Engineering Overnight Experience”, is anyone going?
Reading that some applicants from RD are receiving acceptances…what does that mean for deferred from EA?
Starting to get scared- my child is 4.0uw, 1560 SAT (took once), lots of AP, good ec, varsity athlete- deferred EA and now not hearing with early
@quinntheeskimo I’m right there with you. There were a lot of super high quality applicants deferred. I was shocked when I was reading through the thread on EA decision day. At least it made me feel better about being deferred. The comment in another thread about EA applicants being deferred because they aren’t strong enough is crazy. Something must not seem like a fit. I can’t figure out what it is with my app, but there are a lot of applicants and only so many spots. Good luck to your child.
The majority of RD applicants that got accepted last week were people that got into the Honors program.
Son was deferred in ED round… would love to get an opinion on his chances. Also any idea on when RD will get decision?
1520 SAT
3.5 Unweighted GPA 4.1 Weighted
Lots of EC
Eagle Scout
Some athletics
Great Leadership and Volunteering
Great Letter of Rec
Competitive High School (does not rank)
Many AP’s and all honors since Sophomore year
National Honor Society
@bluedog3140 I think they have a good chance to get in. The GPA is somewhat low but things like being an Eagle Scout do go a good way to benefit them. But they also need diverse ECs. I applied there as well, 1440 SAT with a 3.75 UW GPA and a 4.75 W GPA. 4 yrs varsity captain of baseball, author of an autobiography, yearbook editor, founder of student government and they think I’ll be ok. With good test scores, it helps a lot certainly but they are ideally looking for a “diverse candidate”, whatever that means in each college’s lingo. Is there any other standout information that they might have? Otherwise, your son seems very competitive and you should not worry about him getting into a great college. Is NEU his top choice?
@Kova34 … Thanks for responding. NEU would be his top choice but he’d be ecstatic to get into BU. I can’t think of any “stand out” information. My worry is that he applied to all super competitive schools and only one safety. I hope he is competitive for at least one of these reach schools.
anyone else get the “we are still reviewing your application” email today?
I did not, were u deffered EA? What did the email say? @surrrviving
@mjmthesecond ya i was and it was about not being able to change the college you applied to if you applied to a combined major
S was deferred from EA and also got the same email today as he applied to a combined major.
