Mine got the physics weekend invite today… very exciting! Trying to work it into schedule but she is a music scholarship finalist with live audition for another school on same weekend.
@Veryapparent My daughter got the physics weekend invite today too. She is very excited! We are booking our plane tickets tonight.
For those who are doing the Physics weekend, are your students actually interested in Physics? DD had thought about going, but it’s the weekend before Winter tri finals. Do they get something there they wouldn’t at an admitted students weekend?
@cb4bowie Mine is considering being a physics major. Yes I think its a focused group event. You can google it and find some more in depth information about it. I read they started doing it years ago and interest in their program really surged. Lawrence is well known for its physics department.
Yes, my daughter is probably going to major in physics, so for her, this is an opportunity to meet the professors, work in the laser laboratory doing experiments, spend the night in the dorms with a current physics major, etc.
There’s a great (old!) article on how Lawrence built their physics department into what it is now:
@DoinResearch My daughter will be at the Theatre Workshop as well. This will be her 3rd visit.
@3gigglinggirls I’m looking forward to the trip. We decided to wait until Feb. so that we wouldn’t have to make multiple trips - all those days off and hotels start to add up. So grateful Kid1 received acceptance before the audition. Wondering when the full financial aid decision will be made - the waiting…more waiting…I never thought going to the mailbox would be so exciting. Kid2 will be in tow, she’s a junior and is looking at the school as well, chemistry/science kid.
D18 has already committed to Lawrence. It was her #1 choice. Hoping for just a little more scholarship $$ from theatre. Every little bit helps.
I have a D20 as well. She has not visited Lawrence. I think she wants to make her own path away from big sis. Although selfishly I would like to have them in the same place.
Congratulations @3gigglinggirls, it must feel good to have the decision out of the way. Kid1 will wait until all the acceptances and aid packages are in. So grateful for the Theater scholarship, every bit helps. I hope its a small crowd and everyone gets something
@ChristiGabi , sorry for the late reply! Yes, she is completing her dual degree with BM in clarinet performance and BA in math.
@3gigglinggirls: Sorry for the late reply! In terms of first year, yes, Freshman Studies and you hit the ground running with music requirements (theory, keyboard skills, aural skills, lessons.) There is also a program called CORE for the freshmen and they meet in groups once a week. My daughter has been a leader and though it’s not required it’s helpful in acclimating to college life. My daughter was in Plantz Hall her freshman and sophomore years; right next to the con so it’s a good location though the campus is so small it’s not a far walk anywhere really. The bathrooms in Plantz are pretty new and clean so I remember that was a plus haha. She has been in Hiett Hall since then and it’s something to aspire to-beautiful dorm with views of the river. Congrats on your d’s decision.
