EA deadline requirments

This is a stupid question but I cant find the answer anywhere. I want to apply to a few colleges Early Decision and the deadline is November 15th, does this mean that the college has to have everything in hand by November 15th (Transcript, Teacher Recommendations, SATs scores, ect ) or is that the deadline for when you have to send everything out ( like i have til November 15th to do everything)

I know that it takes a couple weeks for the school to get SAT scores and transcripts so im curious if I will make the deadline or not. Im waiting on a teacher recommendation still. Thank You.

There is generally a grace period for items outside your control, like SAT scores and transcripts, although it may vary by college. Your part of the application should be sent in by the due date, however.

@skieurope thanks for such a quick response! and one question, if im sending my application through common app would my Teacher recommendation be part of that or my transcript since my school is doing it through naviance?

@Cstilwell My teacher recs were through naviance, but I don’t know if that’s universal or was school specific.

You know the difference btn Early Decision and Early Action and restricted Early Action, right? That means only ONE Early Decision school, btw.

@skieurope last question lol, how long does it take a for a college to get your hs transcript,
im just trying to figure out if I will make the deadline if I ask for it to be sent out 2 weeks before the deadline

@Cstilwell You should assume that you are not the first student from your school to apply to college. The GC and teachers know the deadlines. Don’t micromanage them; it will help your stress level.

@skieurope ok, I guess i will just put my trust in their hands and hope I make it on time

You can apply early decision to only one college. You may be able to apply to others for non-binding early action to others as long as the college with EA allows it and does not have a rule that you cannot apply ED elsewhere. Thus, check your colleges carefully before sending applications.

What a college requires to be in its hands by the app deadline varies. Most want the application by that date, and transcripts and rec letters sent by that date but they can arrive later. As to test scores, it depends on last test accepted. Many accept through October and thus those can be sent when released, while others even accept Nov SAT tests. Nevertheless there are some that want all materials in their hands by the application deadline. Those tell you that on their sites.

If you want to avoid problems and you are already have your test scores, send them now, likewise order transcripts sent now and try to get any needed recommendations now. Mentioned above is that high schools tend to know they need to get transcripts in and when but the reality is many of them are slow in getting things sent, so ordering them now is the safe course. You can send supporting amterials before sending an application. They will be matched to the application when it arrives as longas identifying material is the same (same name, address, school name, and social security number if provided)

^ Right. Be careful. ED and EA are different animals.

@drusba thank you, and yah I meant to write early action, stupid mistake by me.
You answered exactly what I was looking for, and im hoping when I check, all of the colleges I am applying to EA want everything sent by that deadline… Thanks again and have a great day!
