Are the acceptance envelopes normal sized envelopes or larger? Thin or fat? Thanks for the help.

thin envelope = accepted. leap for joy.

fat envelope = bomb. Destroy envelope immediately.

lol hilarious....

I think the real question is whether it says in your email subject whether you're in or not.

Doesn't Harvard change the envelope size every year?

yah guys, forget the envelope...none of us are gonna wait long enough for that!!!! whats the subject of the email?? can u tell if ur in just by the subject heading?

okay let's not get irrational here. what's the difference between reading the subject line and the email itself? All it takes is a click right? We waited for a whole month, one second won't kill us!

Well, when I see it, I don't want to be the one to open it. I'm going to have someone else open it for me-- this way, I won't be as devastated. I want to know what the subject line is also! I'm going to turn off the blurb that Gmail has during the week of 12/10 so I don't see the first line, probably something like "We regret to inform you ..."

I doubt they plunge cold into it, it probably starts off with a rambler: "The applications to Harvard this year, yours included, have been exceptionally strong. We regret to inform you, however, that due to the high number of qualified applicants, we will not be able to offer you a place in the Class of 2009. Best of luck with the rest of your applications!"

subject: EA Decision

or, it might say 'congratulations!'

and then, 'on not being outright rejected. we'll let you know in april'.

collegeperson-I'm getting my decision sent to my gmail account too!

And I was mostly kidding about knowing the email subject... but isn't it basically the same thing as the size of the envelope?

The email subject line will more than likely say "Admissions Decision." That's what mine said last year for RA, and I was accepted. I doubt they'd do it differently for EA. And if you're accepted, the envelope should be fatter because the reply card and lots of other info will be inside. A rejection envelope only has one piece of paper in it ...

thanks caramelkisses06 - could you tell us what else is in the acceptance package? Everyone talks about this "lots of of other info" but what is it!?

Sure ... this is just what I can remember off the top of my head so it may be severely incomplete:
Acceptance Letter
Acceptance Certificate
A few letters of congratulations from Deans and other officials
The Freshman Housing and Advising Form (2 "essays" are needed - that's Harvard for ya ... but they don't need to be serious so don't worry about it)
The enrollment form
Financial Aid Package, if you applied
Notification of anything missing from your Financial Aid App
A letter from some Dean or somebody or other about choosing a college/making the right choice
A Sample "Yard Bulletin" <-- freshman newsletter
A little pamphlet on available extracurriculars
Information on various religious services
Information on pre-orientation programs

And I'm sure there's much more ... it's everything you ever wanted to know about Harvard basically ... It all comes in a Harvard folder that's packed to capacity. Also, it doesn't even come in a normal envelope, it comes in one of those FedeX or UPS (I can't remember which) overnight mail cardboard packages. Keep in mind that all that is for RD, and for EA they may or may not send stuff later. But I doubt that there's much of a difference ... when you see the envelope/cardboard thingy, you'll know ... Hope this was helpful!

i'm checking my email dec 10th for the dec

Wow caramel! - thank you for posting, and it was indeed helpful. "The Acceptance Package" is always such an enigma to hscoolers... :p

Is the FedEx package valid for international students as well? Is it just the Acceptances sent by priority, or is it all notifications?

subject - "Re: jected"

hehe ivyleague... C&G

I'm pretty sure it's just the acceptances sent by priority ... I don't see why they'd be in such a hurry to reject anyone. LOL Plus there's no need to send a rejection in such a big package ... it's just one letter. I'm not sure about international students, but I'll ask my roomie when I get in from work. She's from Mexico. :)

Merci bien - Thank You again...and please tell your roomate 'hola!' from the anxious waiting-for-the-decisioners :)
