EA Decision Release Date

Since everyone got their email, I was able to get more information out of my mom today.
Apparently, 24600-some people applied to Michigan early this year (8% increase from last year). They’ve recorded 53’000+ people who had started their University of Michigan Common App, however they only expect around 45’000 applications overall.

where did you get your info?

8% increase is actually not as bad as I thought it would be.

Aj has connections at admissions office.

My info comes from my mom who works in the admissions office. And my counselor to whom I just spoke about 20 minutes ago.

Btw, I didn’t make it clear, but I think the emails are sent according to geographical regions and will be sent at various times. That’s why some of you may not have received it yet. It could also be in your junk folder.

ajhhs12 can you figure out how many people applied to kinesiology?

Uhhh. I’d have to wait till my mom gets back from work to see if she’s willing to share these figures. Since you’re asking about Kines, I’ll take it you applied there. So I found the stats for the Freshman class in 2010.
3.7 average grade point average
27 average ACT score
1183 average SAT score (Math and Critical Reasoning)
It comes from: [Freshmen | U-M School of Kinesiology](First-Year Admissions | School of Kinesiology)

Yes i did and I am aware of these stats, but thank you! I know there is not very many people… the entering class is only like 200… but if you find out any information, please let me know! thanks for sharing this information with us!

If they send the decisions by email in waves according to geographical area, and I live in close proximity to Michigan, I wonder if I will get my decision a few minutes (or seconds) before other people?

I applied In-state last year and received my decision via email on December 16th at around 1:00 pm. But not everyone did. They came out in waves. A lot of my friends did not get anything until later that night. So yes, UMICH did send them out before the 23rd. They never actually said on the 23rd. They always said BY the 23rd.

Good luck everyone!

@ajhhs do you know when they’re going to start releasing decisions? like, when the first emails will be sent out? just curious… i know you may not know/be able to divulge the info :)

I don’t know when they will be released, sorry. And I’m guessing in-state will hear first. I’ll let you guys know if I learn anything new.

@ajhhs12 do they always release in-state decisions first?

So if 45,000 applications are expected. And michigan is aiming for a freshman class of 5000. And the yield rate is approximately 46% (according to 2008-09 statistics [University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Admissions Statistics and Chances | Parchment - College admissions predictions.](<a href=“University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Admissions Statistics and Chances | Parchment - College admissions predictions.”>University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Admissions Statistics and Chances | Parchment - College admissions predictions.)). Michigan’s overall acceptance rate would be about 30% for an accepted class of 13,500 students and with the yield rate it would mean 6210 are coming to school here. Note that im assuming the admissions office is probably aiming for a little more than their ideal class size. 30% is dramatically lower than the 50% that is listed on the collegeboard website.

When it says middle 50th percentile of admitted class had an ACT score between 29-33. Does necessarily mean 29 is the 25th percentile and 33 is the 75th percentile?

Flipper: The college board statistics are several years old. These recent years it’s been more difficult to get into Umich. The ACT range was also 27-31 several years ago too.

@ForeverAlone, yes that is what it means

Yeah last year the test scores made a significant jump. That was probably the main difference in years past and weeded out a lot of the kids who got by taking easy classes in high school with a high GPA. Expect it to be even tougher this year.

aj you are an awesome tool. Thank you so much. All we can do now is wait. I think the emails will be dispersed between the 16th and the 23rd. Hopefully a great day in the fture for us all. good luck everybody!

@Flipper

:/ 30% is such a scary number…

By tool I’m pretty sure I mean asset… Didn’t mean to call you a tool:P
