Ok so I got deferred (I was pretty much expecting that), but what should I do now? Also how good do you think my chances are of getting in regular decision?
ACT: 33
SAT: M:640 CR:690 W:750
SAT II: Math II: 700 USH: 690 Physics: 540
GPA: 3.8 (UW) 4.38 (W)

Hi everyone, so I got deferred (was expecting it…kinda). But do you think I still have a chance in RD pool?

ACT: 32, (34 if superscored)
SAT: 2020 (wouldn’t submit it, but I had to)
SAT IIs: US history - 650, Bio - 650, Math Level 2 - 770 (should I take them again?)
Essays: pretty good!, but I realized I made one grammar error. could i still fix it…?
Letters of rec: very good
Interview: very good
hooks: I moved to US from Turkey 3 years ago speaking no English, so I had to learn it in the past 3 years, still got a 117 on TOEFL
extracurriculars: editor-in-chief of newspaper, co-captain of debate club and mock trial, in a bunch of committees, active in mun, and a couple other things, including law internships in Turkey. extracurriculars are probably my strength
grades: ugh. I had mostly Bs last year, though I took 4 APs and 3 Honors. This year I’m taking 5, and things are looking better. Weighted GPA is a 95. Our school doesn’t use the 4.0 system.
Awards: a couple of medals in Science Olympiad, NHS, National Latin Honors Society, some awards in national Latin exams
volunteering: not too many hours. (about 100) National Honor Society

I’d really appreciate if someone could chance me. Georgetown is really the one school I’d want to go to.

I’m applying to SFS, btw.

Accepted (MSB)

SAT: 2340 (800 CR 760 M 780 W)
SAT II: 730 US History 700 Math 700 Chem
GPA: 4.3 Weighted
Letters of Rec: Awesome, my math teacher said it was one of the best he’s ever written and one from my volleyball coach who I’m very close with
Interview: Connected with my interviewer, he was very similar to me, lasted almost an hour
Essays: Very good, one was very personal but I thought my MSB essay could have been better

Congrats to everybody who got accepted I never thought I would be accepted it’s truly a dream come true! To those who were deferred don’t lose hope because I had been telling myself for weeks I was going to get deferred!

@Student1001

Cant believe you thought you were getting deferred with 2340 and that GPA. My GPA is 3.25 grade 9, 3.0 grade 10, (both unweighted) and 4.33 grade 11( weighted +1.0) and 1880 SAT first try (second try was December so wont get it in time), and 40/45 IB predicted score, no SAT 2s. Awesome letters of rec, awesome interview, mediocre essays, and I still have hope of getting accepted am I lying to myself?

I agree. That’s Ivy league stats right there, student1001. Congrats!

@IBDiplomaVictim

Do you have ECs and volunteering? or legacy/athlete qualities?

ACT: 33 (one-sitting)
SAT (highest of two sittings): 730 CR, 710 M, 790 W
SAT II: 770 USH, 730 Lit, 680 French (lol, not a native speaker)
WGPA: 4.67 UW: 3.89
essays: wrote my sfs-specific one day of about the status of women in the world…might have been unique. My EC essay was about Model UN which was perfect for SFS.

interview: Went brilliantly at first, talked about British TV shows, politics, other cool things, until he asked me what I could bring to the table and I totally blanked. I thought I would be rejected because of the interview, but obviously they don’t matter at all.

@DaftNe

No athlete qualities, good ECs.

Accepted- College

SAT- CR: 720, W: 710, M: 650

Are any of you who got a letter from the philadelphia area?

@phillygirl31

I live about an hour north of Philly and got mine today :)

Got deferred and my letter was normal sized with one 8 1/2" x 11" sheet inside but I’m hoping for the best in RD

SAT: 800 M 730 CR 790 W
SAT II: 780 Math2 740 Math1 700 Chem
GPA: 3.9

I was wondering if anyone had similar numbers and got deferred as well or what I should do to increase my chances in RD

thanks

I owe this post to everyone out there who doesn’t believe that they can get accepted to a place like Georgetown.

I’m a white male, with absolutely no hooks.

Put that I had participated in "Volunteer work, community action, or Tutoring, but did not specify number of hours.

My essays ranged from decent-excellent and one had a typo. My general essay was my CA essay, the other two were written literally hours before the deadline. I reread them and did like them, though.

I sent one teacher recommendation (because my second one didn’t send in time), and it was mediocre at best. My teacher allowed me to read it, and it sounded “copy and paste-ish.” My counselor doesn’t know me particularly well but he thinks I’m awesome (superficially, you could say), so it was probably decent at least.

Im sorry but how does that apply to people that think they won’t get accepted when you have the typical scores, crazy high GPAs, and great ECs of a Georgetown admitted student?

I’m waiting on my EA decision and wondering how/when it is supposed to arrive. Georgetown said Dec. 15 but tomorrow’s a Sunday so no mail. Are decisions emailed, snail-mailed, or both? No letter in the mail today. One girl from my school got in but I haven’t heard. Why wouldn’t we hear at the same time?

When can I expect a decision if I live in NY?? Has anyone else in NY heard about EA?
Thanks!!

I live in Middle Georgia, mail came in the pouring rain but no letter for me. Good luck to everyone and congratulations to those who got in!

I live in California and got my letter today. I got deferred (wasn’t really expecting to get admitted because my stats in comparison to all those accepted are pretty subpar).

Also, I wasn’t given an interview opportunity- when I called the admissions office, they said that there wasn’t anyone in my area (which I find to be very, very strange considering I live in the Los Angeles area of Southern California). Did anyone else in California not get an interview as well?

@IBDiplomaVictim I appreciate that you think that, actually haha. It just feels like that on all of these decision threads, everyone has 2250+ and 15 APs, and interesting awards, clubs, or outside of school activities. I knew I was “good,” but I struggled to find a reason they would want to accept me.

So, my point is, you do not need a 2400, 15 APs, some obscure EC, and super-outstanding rec letters to get it.
