EA decisions have begun.

Decision: Accepted

A new tab has appeared on my daughter’s page, with a box that says ‘Congratulations!’ and where she can put down a deposit…but no acceptance letter… Dare we hope??

Congratulations to both of you - and good to know. I’ll have to ask my guy to check his page, but he didn’t apply until fairly recently, so it may take a little longer.

Strange, daughter got only letter. No portal or any reference to portal.
Dory, can you share the link?

Thanks and congrats.

nystocktrader: Well, not really a portal, but if you go to the Eckerd site and click on the ‘Apply Now’ page, you’ll see the standard ‘Apply Now’ box on the bottom right, as well as a box that says ‘Where is it?’ with the link to that little video of everyone looking for your application.

If the student has set up a customized page for him/herself, they can log in by entering their first and last name and their email address, followed by their zip code. This will take them to ‘their page’ which welcomes them by name. My daughter’s page now has a new box on the bottom right corner that says ‘Congratulations!’ and then has a link to make her enrollment deposit. Th link is active and takes you to a page that says:
'Congratulations on your acceptance to Eckerd College. We are thrilled that you’ve decided to join us and look forward to welcoming you into our campus-based community. To guarantee your place in the entering full-time residential student class, please use the form below to submit an enrollment deposit of $400. After May 1, 2014, this deposit is non-refundable, so please give careful consideration to your college decision." This is followed by a place to enter your credit card info.

Strangely, it also has a link to join the ‘Class of 2017 FB Group’, which makes me wonder…
She hasn’t received anything via email or in the postal mail actually telling her she’s IN, but seems strange that she can go in and pay for a place if she’s not really been accepted. We’re hoping it’s a good sign, but maybe it’s just a glitch and everyone can see it!

Anyway, congrats to your daughter, who most definitely IS admitted. Can I ask, when did she submit her application? Just wondering how long it takes to actually hear one way or another…

Thanks, daughter submitted app on 10/30 (I think).
I see the link and create the page but it freezes after hitting submit. I’ll give them a nudge.

All the best,

Hmm… for my guy it says they don’t have his high school transcript.

Note to self… have my guy go to guidance tomorrow and request they send another one…

Well, this morning as I was reminding S to go to guidance he checked his Eckerd page and the transcript is there. Lag time at one end or the other must have been the issue. Regardless, it’s there now, so all should be set. He’s happy - as am I. With the weather being as it is here he’d be happy if he got an “Accepted and Come Immediately” notice. ;)

My daughter is a a freshman at Eckerd and so far she is very very happy. Good luck to all. I think it’s a special place. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you have any questions and I’ll try to answer them (from the perspective of my limited experience).

Hurray! Official acceptance finally arrived. Just FYI, it is a big envelope, but THIN - not much in there…no bumper sticker, no tee shirt, no financial aid info (tho they do say ‘academic award info will follow in 2 weeks’). But of course the ‘Congratulations!’ is what really matters at this point!

BTW, the letter was dated Nov 20th, and this is several days after we first saw the ‘Congratulations!’ on the webpage. Not sure if there is just a lag between web updates and paperwork or if seeing the box on the webpage is actually meaningless?

Anyway - happy day in our house!

My son received his acceptance letter today. He is VERY happy!!

As noted above:
– It is a thin envelope, which gave him a scare.
– Academic scholarship info is NOT included in this letter.
– Navigating through the website to set up a personal page (to track his application) is not easy. At least it wasn’t easy for him/us. Never could get there.

My son went to an Eckerd info session and came away with a very positive view of the school. We haven’t visited yet, but it does sound like a unique and special place.

Good luck to all!

My guy’s acceptance was here yesterday when we returned from our Thanksgiving travels. He’s happy! He’ll be attending if finances work out - or Plan B will be taking a year off to work if they don’t. He never found another school he liked (comparatively) for Marine Bio/Science and what he wants… though his second choice takes apps up until next July if he changes his mind once finances are revealed. Time will tell. The first step is completed!

Hmm, more of you should go to the Parent’s Forum and add the acceptance to my guy’s on the Class of '18 acceptances page (up top, one of the stickies - go to the last page, then down to the end, cut & paste, adding info to the newest post).

I had to add Eckerd - which surprised me considering his acceptance wasn’t the first I’d heard of on here. He’s thrilled, so I was happy to add it, but it’d also be neat to see more potential classmates listed… ;)

Will do! My daughter just heard she’s received a nice merit award and I think it’s solidifying into her top choice school, too. But we’re still waiting to see if she’s accepted OOS at UNC-Wilmington…

BTW, I really like the fact that students just have to maintain a 2.0 to keep their merit awards. I of course hope she’ll do better than that, but it’s nice to know that there is some room for the occasional flop. They actually say, ‘We believe this GPA requirement will allow you to choose freely among the courses in our curriculum without the fear of losing this scholarship.’ Just the adventurous spirit I’d expect Eckerd to foster!

And also meant to say congrats to your son on his acceptance, Creekland! I will keep my fingers crossed that things will work out financially so he can attend his first choice school.

I’m SO relieved that my older son graduates in May so we’ll just have the one to support next year…

https://www.facebook.com/groups/398011623639994/
The official Eckerd College Class of 2018 group for students interested, considering, applying, admitted or entering Eckerd for Autumn/Fall Term 2014.

We have one graduating in May too, but we still have middle son who will just be entering his junior year, so two in college. Middle son will want med school if he stays on his current path (likely), so it will be a while before we have “open” funds again.

We do remind him (playfully) to specialize in geriatrics so we can at least have decent medical care in our older age. Youngest knows he’ll need a boat and a place on a coast for our entertainment fixes. Oldest (accounting) will be taking care of our bills/finances, etc.

At least… that’s the plan as we see it. ;)

Hmmm – can see the Congratulations! widget which dory123 has described.
I’m inclined to think that it’s an ‘undocumented feature’, given that the widget above reads Apply Now.

When he interviewed last week (a couple of weeks after applying), my son was was advised that any merit award would come separately.

Great planning, Creekland!

expat: The thing that’s weird about the ‘Congratulations!’ thingee is that it didn’t show up until some time after she’d applied, and it’s only visible on her page once she’s logged in. If I go in on my computer, I don’t see it - just that little ‘where is it?’ video is there. But you’re right, it’s probably just not a reliable indicator…

And yes, the merit award letter was dated 7 days after the acceptance letter.

A nice Trustee’s Scholarship arrived in the mail yesterday! That’s definitely a help toward his dream. He has it on the table with his keys to share with the guidance office later today…

He may be the first from our school to go there. He may not be the last. He has others (younger) interested too… the lad is rather popular. It’s interesting how connections work.
