EA Decisions Last Year

I'm def. nervous...and I should be prepping for an 8 minute oral presentation on Catch-22 for my Eng. Lit class, but oh well. Actually, my school's rules for valedictorian are fff****ed up royally. They only take grades from 1st semester senior year (that's it--from what my eng. teacher told me). I can only hope he's dead wrong, b/c I got a 3.8 on my last progress report! Of course, if I get in, it won't matter(would put smiley face here if I knew how)

I hate this goddamn censor! ing piece of dog!

LOL at "y'all"- Such a southener! I would love to hear your accent in real life!!

My stats: (this is copied from another thread)
Basic Stats:
SATI: 1500 (790V, 710M)
SATII's: 770/770/760
GPA: About a 98.9 (our stupid school refuses to use the 4.0 scale. Makes it SO much harder, imo!)
Rank: 4 or 5/425
ECS: Lots of student gov stuff and lots of initiative/leadership within it. 2 varsity sports (captain and letterer), lots of community service. Most of the things I do relate to student gov/shared decision making, so it's a pretty consistent passion.

Recs should be great, essays I have no idea. People say they're good but I hate everything I write, so...

Alright, I'm out for the night. Calc is definitely not my subject, so off to study I go.

I'm Southern, too! "Ya'll" is a staple in my language habits. I couldn't speak without it. :)

We don't have accents!

Lauren you're stats are awesome, you shouldn't have a problem AT ALL.

Our school doesn't do valedictorian, they don't give ranks. They don't want to make the other kids feel bad, etc. Actually, I think it might have something to do with avoiding any overly hostile atmosphere and such. Which makes me glad.

We have try-outs for graduation speakers, as well as Senior Class and ASB president.

Yes we do, at least down here in LA. Okay, some of us. I don't..

We have ASB (at our school it's just called SBG).. and we have the rank system..

Here's how they do the rankings..

They turn on the School SIS (Secondary Information System, has the records of all 5,000 students PLUS everyone who's graduated since 1992).. then they run a program that calculates the ranks of everyone in the senior class. Then the comptuer spits them out like crazy. It takes about 15 minutes to do. Doesn't include withdrawn people or people with very low (<0.05) GPAs..

The atmosphere academically is a bit hostile when you get to the upper echelons, but in no way is it comparable to the physical fights that go on in our school EVERY DAY.

Anyone who thinks that anyone shouldn't have a problem AT ALL should go and re-read the archives from the last couple of years on the CC board for the months of March and April. You won't believe the profiles of some people who got rejected. Lauren's a good candidate and I like her chances. But "good" chances in this context means around 50/50 or 60/40. Remember, the rejected nearly have the 800 Verbals and 800 Maths in the top 5 percent of their class and the numbers drop steeply with both SAT score and class rank. And remember that this year will be worse than last year, simply because there are more hs seniors graduating. It's ugly. Real ugly. Again, I like Lauren's chances. But it's not a slam dunk.
