S was accepted today and got a presidential scholarship!! It is so exciting!!Still don’t know if it will be affordable though.

Congratulations. Hopefully it will work out.

I was just wondering, do you know how many presidential scholarships are awarded???

I do not know. I noticed a few ppl on cc who applied ED said they received one. According to USNews, I believe 9% of freshman receive merit based aid.

i didn't get in. :(
do you think if i send in a regular admission application in before the deadline feb 1 i will qualify for a decision for regular admission? is that possible..please let me know asap

I think that if they defer you, you will automatically be considered for RD. If you were rejected, then I don't believe you can apply RD, but I could be wrong. Talk to them, and your hs gc for more reliable advice just to be sure.

dstark, Thank you!

thanks northeastmom
i really had my heart set out on bentley..and i am very upset that i didn't get in. it was a place where i knew i could fit it
best of luck to your son and i hope he loves it there

Northeastmom, Wow not only did your son get in but got $$$ to boot! Was it a large envelope? Was the scholarship included in the same acceptance letter? We haven't heard anything yet. After your post I went to the mail box to look. Nothing. Are you in the New York area?

Pennstudent, Thank you. He does not know if he is going yet. We need to see his financial aid package.

My S and I have had many discussions about this, so I will give you my advice. Don't get your heart set on one school. There are many schools where you can be happy and succeed. My S understands that, and he really is keeping his options open. He feels that he can make the schools he applied to work to meet his needs. Those that he felt won't work for him came off the list right away. There are some that are better matches b/c of geography, his academic interests, some have better job connections, some are more remote and others urban, some are a little smaller or larger than his ideal etc. There are pros and cons to all of the schools, but he feels that he can be happy at the schools he applied to. I think it is good to look for schools with this mind. Good luck and I wish you all the best!

Northeastmom:

Congrats ! That is great news.

We have a son who is a freshman at Bentley. (In fact, today is the first day of the spring semester). He is really enjoying it. We have been very impressed with the school so far. Orientation and First week were very well done. The professors seem to care. Technology focus is a big differentiator. Only downside has been the library and fitness center. Both are closed until March for major, major renovations that should be huge improvements.

I hope the financial aid works out.

If I can answer questions...PM me.

Thanks, and I already sent a pm to you.

Lillybell, I sent a pm to you, but I just read what you posted here now. I missed this one, but read the one on the parent board. We are from NJ, and I can't understand why my son got an envelope before you, since you are closer. Yes, it is a big white envelope. Yes, the scholarship info is inside. There were 2 different folders. One has the acceptance letter in it and all kinds of accepted student info, that we have yet to read. The other folder has just one letter containing the scholarship award information.

congrats about ur S! what were his stats and stuff in order to get the scholarship?

I don't know how they figure out the scholarship info. I asked someone in admission a long time ago. I was told that they award it to the top 25% of applicants, but they cannot know who their top 25% are b/c the RD deadline is 2/1, so I am not sure how it is done. My son is a solid student and has strong ecs, and community service.

can u be more specific..i'd really appreciate it...im super nervous about hearing back and all

Congrats Northeastmom to you and your son! How nice that he got accepted and the presidential scholarship. Hope you keep hearing good news.

Debruns, thank you!

Bri06, I sent a pm to you.

Unfortunately my son's friend was deferred today. They go to the same hs. His friend takes similar classes, and has a slightly higher gpa, but has lower sat scores. His friend has substantial ecs.

I see that you are located in CT also. I called the school this morning and they said that they sent out all the EA responses on Friday afternoon. I checked with another student from my son's school and he has not received anything either. Wouldn't you think that we are neighbors with MA and that the mail would get to us at least the same time that people in NJ got them? Please post if you receive anything today. I will do the same. Anyone else heard from Bentley?
