I am somewhat fascinated by this entire post. I am curious is there another forum/thread discussing the experience of African American students at UGA? I’ve heard the kids aren’t well integrated, which is kind of sad to me. Letter also noted recipient of a Georgia incentive scholarship awarded to “outstanding incoming first-year students who have attended select Georgia public high schools” which, combined with Zell Miller, drops cost of attendance to approx. $15K.

UGA keeps the honors program on the small side. Many more qualified students apply then they can admit. So it’s a holistic process and they are weighing the factors they said they weigh. It may look random to those not in the admissions room, but I don’t think it is. Just because you get a scholarship doesn’t guarantee honors program.
@tmeg01 UGA is not isolated. It is large, but as a result, there is something for everyone. I’ve never heard isolated and UGA in the same sentence. lol. Athens is a great college town. An occasional trip to ATL is also very easy. The honors program is fantastic, but your D will get a great education even if she isn’t in the honors program. Congrats to your D and good luck on getting into honors. UGA is fantastic, with or without honors.

He did not get any additional scholarship beyond the Zell Miller which seems odd given comparative stats. Thoughts?
