@eh1234 your child seems like they were an extremely competitive applicant. Do you know if he completed the essay for merit consideration? But nevertheless, the admission decision letter should contain any merit $.
Also something to add to this thread is to note either in state or out of state. We are considered in state, I have a 2nd year son currently in the honors with computer science, when he graduated high school 2017, he was on the top end of his class, getting a very high GPA but didn’t get a scholarship which was disappointing. I think they give scholarships to mostly to out of state students. He’s been happy at Mason, regardless. My 2nd son just got accepted today, not in honors but to the engineering school so he’s thrilled! Best of luck to all of you! ?
did you guys also demonstrate financial need? I got into the Honors College as in-state with a 31 ACT, 4.34 GPA, 40/540 Rank, 8 AP’s and a whole bunch of EC"s (including starting my own club and an International Night at my school which raised $400). I haven’t heard anything about scholarships yet but I’m planning on calling when they open again on Monday. I was really hoping for the University Merit Scholar award but I havent heard anything yet!
My daughter received acceptance letter, but it doesn’t mention anything about Honors (to which she applied) or scholarships. She has a ACT score of 34 and a high GPA. She applied to the Game Design program. Can anyone elaborate on where the honors info. was located? Thank you!
@CAWSLP it was in the first sentence of her letter: Congratulations! I am pleased to offer you admission to George Mason University and the Honors College for the Fall 2019 semester
Also, for those confused about merit… I think most of the awards people are getting are because they are out of state. This is to bring the cost down closer to an in-state school. In fact, my daughter’s letter specifically stated: Your scholarship, specifically for non-Virginia residents, will be applied toward your tuition over four years of undergraduate study at Mason, beginning with the Fall 2019 semester
Thank you @atbegem. We’re going to follow up. It doesn’t make sense that she didn’t get in given her high stats. She seems to think it has something to do w/ Common App vs. GMU app.
