I just read one poster writing that her daughter got her acceptance letter today. She lives in Ohio though. My online status still says, "Completed Application In Review." Online it says they aren't giving decisions until the 31st. Maybe she got her decision earlier because she lives in Ohio. I really hope I didn't get rejected, Wooster is a top choice. Has anyone heard anything else? And if you did, was it via mail or online? Did your status change online? Thanks!

I got accepted, they posted the decisions online! :)

Congratulations, early_college! I received my acceptance via mail on Christmas Eve (like the aforementioned poster, I live in Ohio). It was an appreciated Christmas present. The College of Wooster was/is also one of my top choices!

Did you get any scholarships? Wooster is also one of my top choices.

I did. My scholarship was valued at $70,000. I have to apply for a separate scholarship, though (CoW offers competitive scholarships, which are valued at higher $ amounts). As generous as it is, the Dean’s Scholarship isn’t enough to make the College of Wooster affordable (for me).

I was going to apply for their Performing Arts Scholarship. I just looked at their College Scholar Award, would it be a waste of time if I am not in the Top 15% of class or have a ACT of a 29/SAT of a 1950? Thanks!

I wouldn’t think so! Of course, I’m not in charge of admissions/scholarships (so I can’t be certain), but you’re not going to lose anything by trying. That probably sounds silly, but I do feel that CoW gives their applicants every opportunity to highlight their strengths, even if they’re not a valedictorian with a 2400 SAT/36 ACT (I could rant forever about SAT and ACT). At the very least, I’ve had my best experiences with the CoW admissions and faculty.

Besides, applying for the scholarship demonstrates interest and initiative. It would also allow you to flaunt your writing abilities (and CoW, from what I’ve gathered, has a high-level of appreciation for writing. If I’m not mistaken, they have a required course on college writing before the term starts).

In the end, unless you’re up to your head in school work and applications, it would not be a waste of time to apply for the College Scholar Award. Definitely apply for the Performing Arts Scholarship, though!

I hope that was of some help.

Thanks! I’ll def apply! :)

[Merit Scholarships - College of Wooster](http://www.wooster.edu/Admissions-and-Financial-Aid/Merit-Scholarships)

^Recommended mininum: Top 15% of class, ACT of a 29/SAT of a 1950. You don’t meet either of the recommended minimum stats by quite a few points. I don’t feel it is worth your while to apply, but we know you will.

Yeah that’s why I asked if I should even bother, but some other posters told me it won’t hurt. The worst thing that will happen is that I waste my time on the essay.

I got an Alumni Award for $5,000 a year, which is less then all of my other colleges I got into. I got an early estimate and we would have to pay $22,000 per year, which is too much. Clark would make me pay 7k a year and Holy Cross would make me pay 6k a year.

How do you know that you would only have to pay $6,000/yr. for Clark and $7,000/yr. for Holy Cross? Have you been accepted to Holy Cross? You can’t go by those online estimators. You’re not going to know anything until you get a concrete official financial award notification by the college. Have you submitted all of the needed financial aid info–FAFSA and whatever else they require?

^Here is the list of available merit scholarships–no mention of Alumni Scholarship on the list. Did one of your parents graduate from Wooster making you the son of an alumni?

Early Estimators are estimates, so based on the estimates Clark & HC are the most affordable. It’s not the final awards, but the FA shouldn’t be much different from 2010. Of course you can’t submit your FASFA until Jan 1st.

It’s actually entitled “Alumni Award.”

I do not see Alumni Award listed under their available merit awards.

I think you’re going to be very surprised how much of a difference there is between the online estimator and the official financial package offered. I hope it works out for you.

100% agree!

I did not see it either, but I did receive it! :)

Thanks for the support! :)

We weren’t even looking for DD’s EA decision until I saw this thread. We live on a school campus and our post office has been closed for the holidays so we just haven’t bothered to go over and check the mail. Thank you! She was accepted with a $60K Dean’s Scholarship. Maybe she’ll see you there.

Congrats to your daughter! :)

Thank you!

My daughter is a freshman at Wooster and LOVES it! It has exceeded all her expectations for quality of students, great profs and quality of life. She was telling us on the way back to school second semester that she wishes she could take another whole set of classes - she loves her classes! Hard to beat that endorsement.
