EA decisions

This is all a very good read :)

Are EA applicants usually stronger or RD? Around my area (Central New York) the EA applicants to Binghamton weren't the strongest applicants (score/GPA-wise) and were hoping to get pushed over by applying EA.

Friends who are applying RD now are the kids who were deferred from ED to Ivies/other top privates--and there were a lot this year--who have incredibly strong stats. Of course, I only speak for a chunk of my area (4-5 high schools) but I'm curious as to what other people have heard?

Bing has cut off applications before the stated deadline last year and I think the year before (they have a right to do this) so the kids getting them in early might be worried about that happening again. My D's GC encourages the EA whenever possible.

I don't know about that, coretto joe--another kid at my school that got into Bing EA and I were both deferred from Ivies and did EA anyway, it's possible as long as it wasn't Brown early. I think it might just be an all-around mix.

Bananafish is right, it's usually a mix.
But the reason schools like Harvard are getting rid of EA is because many of the already advantaged kids, just get more of an advantage. (I'm not making this up or being stereotypical, there's articles about it, haha) So basically they're saying the fortuneate kids with better educations apply EA and the less better off students apply RD. Going off that assumption EA applicants would probably be better suited for BU than RD applicants but I also know people who did ED for Ivy leagues and got rejected so they're doing RD.
All in all, it's a mix but usually colleges note the EA pool to be stronger overall.

I hope that helps corretto joe!

Another reason that the Ivys wanted to get rid of EA is, like oh heyyy said, it gives fortunate kids an even bigger advantage. Alot of this has to do with financial aid. If you apply ED somewhere, they are much less likely to give you a good package because you are bound to go there, whereas if you apply RD you can shop around. This prevents many less wealthy people from applying to school early.

Mhmm, it does help! I've always thought it was the other way around since so many people I know apply ED because they think it might "push them over" if their stats are borderline.

And it totally didn't occur to me to apply EA with ED too, since Bing isn't SCEA. $!@%. I hate waiting.

when is the earliest you guys think that bing will mail decisions for RD applicants

why doesnt bing post decisions online like other schools

They did just last year, but they decided it would be better if we were informed in writing. I think they were right -- seems a lot more formal, and also makes more "hype" over all the waiting.

And while this is probably unrelated, there was that one year at Columbia where some kid figured out that acceptances were shipped by Fedex and rejections/deferrals by USPS or whatever, so people started calling Fedex because you can track packages by addresses...

I am really scared I applied RD but Binghamton is my first choice and all I'm seeing is people with really good stats being rejected. 3.7 GPA 1260/1910 SAT 680/530 SAT 2 28 ACT Good Extracurriculars and Recs anyone got any ideas?

I applied undecided. My ECs were substantial, my essay was solid and the one rec I saw was very good. I took 1 AP and 2 honors courses last year and I am taking 4 APs this year.

Binghamton is notorious for rejecting students with below a 90 GPA so the fact that I had an 86 was probably an automatic denial.

actually scrib it was probobly your scores that got you rejected, there low even by binghamtons standards.
