EA dilemma

Many high school seniors are having a dilemma like I am now (for me, it's stanford).
ED/EA: to apply or not to apply, that is the question

Pro --- Con

1) Better chances --- it's a more competitive crowd, so your application might look very bad, compared to some very talented applicants
2) Get to know your result --- can be denied in the ED/EA (ouch. But that can be good thing? You move on.)
3) High yield (30-40% of students are admitted during ED/EA) --- your application may look better during the RD, in comparison to some who'll be below you.

I wonder how they decided who to eliminated during ED/EA and who to put in the RD pile.

But everything is a crapshoot at top universities, unless you are recuited. Then u'll know for sure. Lucky you. Do top universities recruit people other than athletes?

sidenote.. i'm glad stanford has a non-binding early
