EA Discussion: Anxious Waiting to Commiserations

Well, it could be the 12th based on the timing of past release dates. But saying that is probably as inaccurate as a Rasmussen poll…

If it happens the 12th I will be soooooo happy. I doubt it will though. :confused: We’re more than 2/3 there guys! AHHHHHH

I am almost certain that it will not be the 12th. They haven’t released EA decisions prior to the 15th in the past 5 years. Actually, looking at the trend we have (December…) 15, 15, 16, 16, 17…

Hmm… MIT likes trends! (Only problem is, if that trend held, EA decisions would eventually be released with RD decisions lol)

Personally, I’m hoping 12/12/12. It won’t happen again for another 100 years 12/12/2112. I am expecting it to be 16th. I wouldn’t be surprised if they trolled us and released December 21, 2012 (The End of the World…)

@mitlover - actually, you’re right. 12/12/12 would be a perfect day!

I wish it would be 12/12/12 as well, but I’m doubting it. 12/21/12 is more likely, specially since many applications were delayed due to the hurricane. I’m expecting the usual date of 12/15/12ish though. I wish they would just tell us already, the wait is killing me and people keep asking me when I find out, and it would be nice to have a date to tell them! :/

They’ll tell you as soon as they can. They can’t give you a date until they themselves can project a safe date by which they’ll be done with selection, and by which they will be able to dot the i’s and cross the t’s to ensure that decisions can go out without a hitch.

Thank you DR. Mollie! Can we take that as your professional opinion? =)

For the number one ranked academic university in the world to not be able to tell , (when the application is submitted, or earlier) the people who have paid $75 when they can expect a decision, makes a mockery of their intellectual capabilities. What, they are not project managers at MIT?

Peckave, I know it’s hard to wait, but they’re doing us a favor. If they set a date in advance they have to be 100% sure they can meet it without knowing even how many apps they’re going to get. So we would probably be looking at notification after Christmas. This way they can let us know our decisions as soon as they’re done, plus they have given an estimate that it will be around Dec. 15. At least we should have our decisions in hand sometime in the next two weeks!

I still think it is an embarrassment to the number one university in the world that given their years of experience with admissions that they can not have the same date every year. You do not have to be an MIT rocket scientist to do this.

@peckave

seriously, quit whining. You don’t even understand the logistics behind the MIT admissions process.

Of course we would like to know the decision date, but there are humans on the other side of this admissions process, they are prone to delay and possibly error too.

Just wait like everyone one else, you’ll get your decision soon enough.

They have years of experience, absolutely. But the number of EA applications keeps rising every year, and yet EA decisions continue to be released around the same time.

I agree totally with unicameral2013 – if there were a date set in advance, it would necessarily be late enough that they could be absolutely sure they’d be done. In the same way, Ivies have a set RD notification date, which is generally about two weeks later than MIT’s fluctuating RD notification date. Personally, I’d prefer to hear earlier, but perhaps you prefer certainty.

Just saying, it’s not a big deal to me if we find out December 15 vs December 19th. We’ll find out soon enough, and given the 6000 or so EA applicants, it’s pretty remarkable that they are able to do it in a month and a half.

Hi guys. From an email I received today it sounds like they’re still reading applications.

What email? I didn’t get one, can you post the content plz? :)

Well, once they decide who gets in, how long would it take them to set everything up so the decisions can go on myMIT without any problems? I mean, they still have 10 days until 12/15/12 (if that ends up being the date), and I’d think they wouldn’t need an exorbitant amount of time. That being said, I know very little about how they do this.

It was a personal email requesting for more materials.

The process is very efficient, and decisions aren’t finalized until shortly before they are released.

Between now and when decisions are released, the admissions officers need to have 7-10 full days of selection committee to discuss every application and make a decision on it. When the decision date is announced, there will be a few days left of selection. After selection is complete, the decisions are reviewed by the dean of admissions while others prepare to release decisions online. There is a little, but not much, elasticity built in.

I called the office of admissions and they told me they still have not received my Nov Sat yet. I sent a official report and faxed them a copy from Staples yesterday. Will it make it there on time?? What should I do?
