EA/ED Chances

OK, do I have enough of a chance for it to be worht applying EA/ED? Here's my stats:

GPA: 3.9 Weighted, 3.7 unweighteed
By year:
summer school in between 8th and 9th grade: 3.0 (computer careers, not college prep)
9th 3.66 (english, spanish 2, algebra 2, drawing, PE, world cultures)
10th 4.0 (english 2 honors, biology, geometry, journalism, spanish 3)
11th 4.5 (english 3 ap, chemistry, trig, spanish 4 ap, advanced journalism, ap us history)
12th (planned: american institutions, english 4 honors, ap statistics, advanced journalism, physics)

class rank: low 20s out of 414

SAT: 2230, 710 math, 720 reading, 800 writing
ACT: 33 composite, 7 writing (writers block sucks)

ECs: president of progressive club for 2 years, editor of school paper senior year and assistant editor junior year, member of interact (community service) club, 9 years karate (brown belt), 10 years acting, 9 years dancing (hip hop).

White male nonreligious resident of california.

And Stanford doesn't look at freshman year, correct? So then I'd have a 4.25 weighted and a 3.9 unweighted? That'll certainly be a boost. But is it still way out of my league?

u have a shot. Its a reach but u have a shot

Correct, Stanford doesn't count freshman grades and they use unweighted grades (although they do look at difficulty of courses). Are you taking/have you taken any AP tests? Good scores on those will help you. Also, Stanford recommends taking two Sat subject tests: Math IIC and another of your choice. You should definitely do those. I'd say your stats place you a bit below average in the Stanford EA applicant pool.

Your activities look pretty good. If you have awards, especially state-level ones, that would boost your chances. Being a California resident and non-asian helps you as well. You do have a chance, but you'll need incredible essays that explain your activites and interests, as well as great recommendations that can help make up for your GPA and rank.

I'd say your chances are very slim and Stanford, or any other elite college for that matter, is a significant reach.

retake the ACT and get a perfect (which it seems you can do). that will help a lot

I do have a couple of awards, but nothing at the state level. My journalism work has won a couple of awards, and so has the paper in general, but that's on a regional level. I've gotten a two awards at karate tournaments, but again, they were local tournaments. I should have a damn good recomendation (I'm extremely close with my AP english Language teacher), and a pretty good essay. I took 3 ap tests last year, spanish, english language, and us history, but I have yet to see how I did on them.

Oh, I nearly forgot. I just got back my grades on my sat subjects. I got 690 Math 1 and 740 Spanish. I'm planning on taking English Lit and Math 2 next fall.

Thanks, all, for the honest evaluations.
