@ EA/ED Deferees - What to do now?

I've been searching on CC for a thread about what to do if deferred EA or ED, but I haven't found one (if there is one, could someone direct me to it?)

If not, I have a few questions:

1) What type of additional info should we send in? I was planning on a short letter expressing that the Ivy I got deferred from is my first choice, a research paper that was recently published in a journal, and art slides that I was planning on sending EA but that didn't arrive in time for submission.

2) Looking back at the 2 long essays I submitted, I realized that I really could have done better. Does anyone know if we can submit additional essays OR edited essays in place of our old essays? The committee is reviewing the applications again, so would they be willing to discard the old ones for the new ones?

3) How else can we increase our chances of RD admission? Having our guidance counselor call the admissions rep?Contacting the regional admissions rep ourselves?

Thanks!!!

Your best bet is to write a letter stating any additional information that wasn’t already in your application, especially new results as a leader, new awards or new personal accomplishments. If you’re received an add’l recommendation, you could also include that, but don’t see them out special. Write this letter carefully and then mail a hardcopy to the school, or email it if you have an admissions counselor’s email address. Don’t provide an update of your already submitted essays. If this is your number one choice school, let them know that you would definitely attend if you were admitted. If your midterm grades or SAT or ACT have improved since your original application, then let them know that as well.

Also, if you go to the college thread of the Ivy you are interested, you could find similar information in older threads from last year for that college if you don’t see a similar discussion for this year yet.

Thanks for the tips, SnowflakeVT!

But just one more thing about the essays - For my common app essay, I completely took it in a different direction. I don’t mean that I just edited some grammar. I changed half the essay. Before, I talked more about the story, but now it’s much more about how the experience affected me. Do you think it would work against me if I requested that they reconsider my essay? It’s not just an update, but a whole new perspective that I want to show the adcoms.
