EA, ED? i'd be grateful if you helped me out

<p>im new to the college admissions process..... ill be a junior next year tho</p>

<p>i was wondering what exactly EA and ED admissions does for you. It let's you apply early right? but does that necessarily give you an advantage?
basically: is the big deal about ED and EA that a college sees your stuff early and thinks "hey this person didn't have to retake any standardized tests" or . i dunno please enlighten me!</p>

<p>supposedly it increases your chances of getting in because you will not be going up against as many people. also (more for ED) it shows an interest in the school. i think it makes you look punctual getting an app in by november instead of january. the main reason why people do it is so they can get into their first choice and be done in december.</p>
