how much could applying EA or ED help you??? would it boost admission chances at all or make up for a weak portion of an application?

EA doesn't really help and ED helps if you're self selecting.

ED will give you an edge because it shows dedication to the college. Since you can only apply to one school ED, it makes a difference to them.

EA doesn't affect admission.

I was thinking the same question, too. If EA doesn't count, then what's the point of schools having it?

It does count: you get a decision 5 months earlier than RA. I'm very glad I applied EA (though I was deferred at MIT :()

I do understand that getting a decision 5 months earlier is a great benefit of EA, but does it really affect the admissions decision? If not, then I don't really see why schools have it.

There are a couple different reasons. A huge one is the benefit for the students - it's very advantageous to go through most of your senior year knowing which colleges have accepted you already. Another reason for the colleges to do it is competition: there's a trend where top students end up applying to top schools early, so most schools offer it now.

Ahh, that makes sense. Lol thanks.
