EA for Umass Amherst? Or RD? chance plzzz

hey guys, this is my first post.

So i'm considering applying EA to umass amherst, but i feel as if im borderline on being accepted. My sat score is a 1620, and i recently took the SATs again october 5th, I assume i scored around 1700-1750.

btw i'm in state at a top public school (Andover)

-my UW gpa is around a 3.3/3.4, and my weighted gpa is a 3.7.
-my act is a 25 but i dont plan on sending that in
-i've had a great upward trend in my gpa (B's and 1 C my freshman year, B's and 2 A's my sophmore year, and almost all A's junior year).
-I feel as if I wrote a fantastic essay, but i suppose its up for the admissions people to decide that
-I did varsity track all 4 years of highschool, and will be a captain this year
-I played varsity football for 2 years as well
-I played freshman basketball too
-2 AP course (US history my junior year, and computer science A this year)
-all honors courses except for spanish my junior year, and all honors courses this year
-volunteering for multiple charity walks / library at my town
-my teacher that is writing my recomendation loved me so i expect a great letter of recomendation.

So what do you guys think. Should i continue to apply early or should i wait until RD so i can boot my gpa a little bit more? I believe i can continue to send updated SAT scores but im not 100% sure. Can you guys give me some feedback?

It’s worth bumping up the GPA. I think you have a solid chance coming from Andover

so you’re suggesting I wait until RD?

My mother went to UMass Amherst. She sent in her application materials in late July, called the admissions office, and asked if she could be admitted. They said yes. While I acknowledge that it is no longer 1971, I do believe that UMass Amherst is still not the hardest school to get into.

Whatever choice you make, I would consider it a Safety / Low Match.

[Chance back?](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1560268-emory-gw-chance-will-chance-back.html)

I’m a senior and from MA too and I think you could get in with what you have right now. I know that they don’t care much about EC’s, they’re mostly all about SATs and GPA, and you’re right on the edge. You might just want to wait until RD so you can have a better chance, because you could get waitlisted where you’re at now.

In fact, send the 25 on the ACT. It’s about the same as a ~1700-1750. The only school where I know that a 1620 on the SAT is better than a 25 on the ACT to the school’s eyes is Australian National University.

UMass Amherst: Low match/Match

thanks everyone,

lexie, do you think applying EA aids my chances of getting in though?

Yeah I think you should apply EA because I highly doubt you’d be rejected, so the worst that could happen is that you could be deferred. So if you were put into regular decision it would include your senior year grades as well, which would help you.

Yeah I also think you will get in. I don’t see a reason not to apply EA because it shows interest and your stats are within their middle 50%. I’d send all scores because most colleges only care about the highest ones. Check with them and see if that’s their policy.
