EA Hopefuls 2017

Since today is the deadline for EA applications, I thought it might be fun to post some stats or thoughts of those applying EA for the class of '17. So, if you want to join in, just post the really relevant stuff. Best of luck to all, especially those for whom ND is a first choice!

Go Irish!

Notre Dame is my first choice! So excited/nervous!

My ECs are relatively weak and I have no major awards. But I hope my essays will be good enough to get me accepted. Best of luck to everyone!

Good luck everyone! I also applied early admission. Can’t wait for December. Notre Dame is my first choice.

I’m surprised that I didn’t leave my application to the last minute. I submitted all the parts on the 27th, but i had it done at least a week before that. The annoying part was that my teacher who I got the letter of rec from submitted her letter on Halloween night… And supposedly students are the ones who procrastinate on their homework…

Forgot to wish everyone luck! I wish we could all get in and go together and be friends.

Wait, can we talk about how afraid I am of deferral? It’s probably going to happen, but it would just be irrationally embarrassing and disheartening to be deferred (in my mind). How much of the early applications are deferred, percentage-wise?

Good luck everyone!

Here’s my stats:

Male, competitive public h.s. in Chicago
ACT: 35 (S 36 M 36 E 33 R 34)
GPA: 4.3 W school does not rank
AP’s: 8 total (4 last year, 4 this year, all 4’s and 5’s so far)
EC’s: Mostly academic stuff, with some leadership, music, service
Essays/Recs: ok, I think they are good, maybe average though
Hook: legacy-I guess this helps at ND

I am really hoping to get in and agree with above about a deferral! Just want to know!
I guess, now we wait…

Notre Dame is my first choice too!
White catholic female from NY
32 act composite 33 superscore
99.77 wtd avg (3rd in class of 363)
graduating with 10 APs, 6 this year

my biggest thing is i do a lot of science research and am entering intel and have done a few other competitions thus far

essays and recs i think are really good

Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone applying! i sent in my app almost a month ago, so i’ve already been dying of anticipation. whenever i watch the football games it makes me want to get in and go there even more!

oh and by the way, does anyone else have a countdown going? i think i read somewhere that the decisions come out by december 20th so i have a countdown on my phone for until then…it’s going to be a long 48 days lol

Notre Dame is absolutely my first choice!

Spent ages on my essays, my Why ND one made my parents cry.

Praying everyday for that big envelope. Good luck to everyone!

I have a countdown too…

Oh, I worry about deferral. Even worse, I am scared I will open the packet and the words, “sorry, you are not admitted” will appear. Notre Dame is my top school and has been for the last couple of years. I’ve drawn such an emotional attachment to the school, it would be a shame not to go.

And for the date, December 20th is the latest they will send it (or so they say). I talked with my regional assistant director for admissions and she said that they mail them all out on the same day when they are done and i should email her in early december and she should be able to give me a day.

DS appied EA. His stats:

34 ACT (34E, 33M, 32R, 36S)
3.95 UW GPA - school does not rank
5 APs junior year (AP Scholar w/ Distinction), 4 more senior year
Varsity Soccer, Basketball (captain), Baseball
Engineering Team (Captain), Academic team
200+ hours community service.

Best wishes to all!

I heard ~December 15ish for letters. When people say the “big envelope” does that mean an acceptance comes in a large envelope whereas a deferral/denial would come in an average letter?

Good luck to all.

Where’d you hear that from? I hope it’s that soon…

Who did you hear that date from? I’ve been told by my regional director (at a meet n’ greet type thing) that i should email her the first week of december and she should be able to tell me a more exact date of when the letters should come.

Students from my school last year told me that was around when they got theirs. Again does a big envelope mean acceptance and normal letter mean deferral/denial?

Acceptances get a 8 1/2 X 11 envelope that contains folder with lots of info in it. Others get standard size envelope with a letter, denied or deferred. We have received both with my two children.

OMG what an amazing game…watching the irish make their way to the championship makes me want to go there even more

Hi everyone, I’m a Chinese female, born in China and adopted by US Caucasian parents. Non Catholic. ND is my first choice. Good luck everyone!

ACT: 34
SAT II: Physics 660, Literature 650, USH 770, Math II 720

APs: Sophomore Year: Euro 4 Junior Year: English Language 4, Spanish Language 4, Physics B 4, USH 5; Senior Year: Music Theory, Calculus BC, English Literature, Physics C, Government, Macro; Total of 11 APs

Courseload: Mostly honors and APs, only regular classes are PE classes and fine arts classes

GPA: 3.93/4 (unw)

Rank: top 10% of 1100ish students in competitive public high school, school in top 100 public high schools in US

ECs: Honor Band, Marching Band, Softball (8 years, played travel, 1 year on freshman team, 1 year on JV, junior year stopped), Flute Choir, Student Council (1 year), Pep Band, FBLA, JV Swimming, Club Swimming, NHS, Tri-M Honor Society (music), attended ND Intro to Engineering 2012

EC Leadership/Big Roles: VP of 330+ member organization (band), VP of TriM honor society, Marching Band Leader, Give a Thon Student Leader (school wide service project), Boys Swim Team Manager, Colombian Exchange Host, 300 Club (over 300 hours of service)

Jobs: SwimAmerica Instructor, Lifeguard at Lifetime Fitness, and U SWIM School Instructor

Awards: Gold Honor Roll (Highest Honor Roll for 3, probably 4 years), 2nd Place at FBLA state (bid for nationals), attended North Suburban Athletic Leadership Conference, AP Scholar with Distjnction, Illinois State Scholar, IHSA Division I (music)

My how times have changed… i got into the honors program back in 04, early action, with a 1510 SAT and a strong but not stellar transcript (a lot of A+s and As, but throw in a few A- and a not so stellar freshman year of HS.) I think the honors program back then was different and maybe even smaller than it is now (i didn’t apply for it, it just came with my admissions packet). If you had a 1500+ you were basically guaranteed in at ND from my public high school, and one of my friends who chose to attend actually scored somewhere in the low 1400 range and a relatively low HS GPA, probably somewhere in the 3.3 range. I guess i am surprised to see all of these people with 1590’s concerned about their admissions prospects since ND seems so test focused.

anyway, it’s a great school. i chose to attend an ivy that i got into at the last minute instead, and i still wonder “what if”. good luck.
