I know the numbers are higher for EA applicants, but could that just be legacies/rich kids?

The kids who have their act together and who really want to get into Chic are all gonna apply EA..thus, is the field more competitive for the average joe?

I don't think so.
University of Chicago does not admit based on numbers, such as other big universities do. So just because someone aced the SATs does not necessarily mean they are UChicago material. I think University of Chicago is a unique sort of school, in that no one applies who really does not want to go there. People aren't going to apply to a school like UChicago unless they want to go, think about it, if you were just so-so about going there, would you really want to waste your time on a whole different application and three essays? It doesn't have the same name recognition as the ivies, and so only people who have researched UChi thoroughly are probably going to apply. Since EA is nonbinding, I don't think the admissions committee will weigh the two applicant pools that much differently.

i agree that chic doesnt accecpt based on numbers, but the kids who have their act together are going to apply EA..so am I not being thrown into the same pool as the kids who are sending in similar apps to all the really great U's?
