EA Panicking!!

So I submitted my EA app to UChicago at 11:58 central time (my time) and received the common app’s email saying my app was registered and whatnot, with proof of it being 11:58. Online though, everything says I submitted EA Nov. 2 at 12:58 eastern time. Did my application go through? Do they just look at what my time zone was or how does this work? Please help

You’re perfectly fine. They look off of the local time, so the application did go through and you will be considered in the EA round! Good luck!

Ahhhhhhhh thank you so much!! Now I’ll be able to fall asleep tonight

Ya that was cutting it close! But as said, you can sleep well, all good.

In the history of this site, there are probably 10,000 posts like this that congregate near every Nov 1 and Jan 1. It’s a spectacle.

I’ve yet to see a single post “OMIGOSH! I’m screwed! I turned my app in at 12:01 and they are not going to review my application!”

Why is that? Because they are ECSTATIC that you applied and want to find a reason to admit you (and your tuition). You’re fine.

Before the University of Chicago went on the Common Application and had to live by its humorless precision, they used to say that they would accept applications as timely filed as long there was somewhere in the world where the deadline had not yet passed. They were using the Aleutian Time Zone, or some other local time zone from an island chain in the the southwestern Pacific.

Lol yeah I think I can call that the second most stressful night of my life. Monday night holds the #1 spot bc I lost all of my essays when my laptop crashed. Good times

Guessing here but colleges are probably not going to sweat something that’s a few minutes late. A day or so late might be another matter because it means you had another 24 hours to work on your application. BTW they have a grace period for materials such as transcripts etc. but I’m not sure of that exact date.

I always tell my kids to get their applications in by a few days before the deadline in order to have time to deal with crashing laptops, illness, family emergencies, or other life issues that might distract them away from making it right under the deadline. Sometimes it can’t be helped, of course, but if possible always shoot for early. Otherwise you will needlessly stress out your parents - oops I mean yourself! :))
