EA RA EA RA help me choose

My stats are below for notre dame. Let's face it, it's a HUGE reach for me, especially with 2 others applying with much better stats/ec's. My only advantage, even though it's extremely minor, is being black. Knowing this, should I switch to RA? Should I use my grades from this semester as a helper through RA? I dunno what to do.

Oh, I'm also retaking my SAT during november 5th. I only have a 1220 right now (/1600). Which ND says they only know they'll see october scores, so is this another check in the RA column?

i GIVE YOU THE OLD BUMPAROONI

DO NOT APPLY EA WITH A 1220! Please, retake and then apply with the better scores. ND says only to apply EA if you have scores in the over 1400 range and you rank in the top 1-2% of your class. I think you may get rejected right away if you apply EA, ruining your chance to go to your dream school. I would follow the website's advice and apply RA. This is only my opinion, and I am just another high school student. Advice from parents would probably be more valuable. Good luck with your application. I can sense that you really want to go to ND. Let your passion shine through when you apply. Hopefully, we'll be classmates in '07.

Meh. I know I'm getting rejected. Thus why I prefer to get it over early rather than later. So is there any chance of admission if I wait? because if even a big jump in my SAT isn't going to give me even a small chance of being admitted, I'd prefer to just do EA and get rejected a lot quicker.

I wasn't saying you would get rejected RA, I was trying to say that I thought you stood a better chance RA than EA. A big jump in SAT would definitely improve your chances, but even as they are you still have a chance. Sorry if you misunderstood what I meant. I don't think you should just "get it over with." ND looks at a lot more than test scores, and if you do a good job showing them your strengths, they may overlook your weaknesses.

Dude, I wouldn't apply EA if I were you, unless you want to get rejected and get it over with. Think about it.. the admissions officers would see strings of 1550's and 1480's and would see your SAT score and may reject you right away, as emswim said. Applying EA to Notre Dame doesn't give anyone an edge; it's just for people with high stats to get their results more quickly. So if you raised your GPA this semester and got over 1300 on the SAT, you'd definitely have a better chance.

If you apply EA, the adcoms will probably think you aren't serious about Notre Dame and that you didn't read the guidelines on EA.

I mentioned this in another post. This summer, while in the ND admission office with my daughter, we talked about her applying EA. The admission officer suggested she wait and do RA to get her SAT's up a little (she had a combined 1280 out of 1600). She's going to take them again at least twice. That's my suggestion to you, too.

Don't get too down on ND just yet. Miracles sometimes happen.

not to get off topic but i know many colleges look at how many times the SATs are taken, does ND do that cuz it may not be wise for your daughter to take it two more times. also cant remember the statistic exactly but i think that after a certain amount of takes the score generally wont increase. just fyi think about if it is worth it.

ND Admissions has stated that the number one thing applicants do wrong is not retake the SAT or ACT. I'm not sure about taking it three times, but I would take them both twice for sure.

i agree with you docmom it is wise(unless you got a perfect score) to take the SATs twice, as long as you've done something to improve yourself, since the previous test, you are guaranteed to do better.

My daughter is a Freshman at Notre Dame. She took the SATs and the ACT three times. It was her third ACT that I think gave her the score that allowed her to be accepted by Notre Dame. She got a 32. Prior to that she got 28, 29. She took her last ACT in December. So.... I don't think they penalize kids for re-taking these tests. She had no legacy no athletic strength but did have strong extracurriculars and strong GPA, but without the higher ACT I don't think she would have probably been admitted - just my thoughts though. My impression was that ND wants to gives kids every advantage they can.

yea it is a catholic school, and religious people try to be fair!
