Psblstnr - you’re right about that. While I would have been thrilled if he’d been accepted there and am sad that he wasn’t, it wasn’t my favorite for him. I’m hoping that now it’s completely off the table, he’ll get more excited about the other schools. The funny thing is, after the rejection, he was reading Knox’s entries in the college guides we have at home.

Yay… The big envelope with the gold turtle shell sticker came today. My son was very impressed by the personalized letter. No mention of any merit money though. Crossing fingers that it follows later. He was just shy of the Presidential GPA requirement.

Ugh! She did put her boarding school address as her mailing address. I called the school and they said that someone might be able to get back to us next week. I wish they updated the status page online. I can see how it would be exciting to get a mailing but mail is so much harder to track. :(

Yeah! She had a friend check her p o box and open her mail. She’s in with the Presidential and will get the exchange student scholarship (another 5K/yr) as long as she submits an essay about her experience by the January deadline. What’s even better is that she enjoyed her telephone interview and thinks Beloit might be a good fit for her. Since it is one that we could now actually afford, I am greatly relieved.

apollo - congrats! What a great news! Beloit is a great school. Several kids from my D’s lang immersion camp are students there and are very happy.

Did they go to CLV? My D never did but her younger brother loved it. I encouraged her to apply to Beloit from the beginning because of their scholarship for kids who have been exchange students. I knew she would find some kindred spirits.

Congratulations to Reeinaz’s son! He was really on the ball to get so many applications in early! It looks like he has some great choices. 6 more?! We’re in for the long haul, too, but I’m feeling MUCH better with Beloit as an option.

apollo - yes, it was CLV(Russian) and my D did it two times and received HS credit for it. And Beloit is famous for their for. languages as well as international relations/studies. So lots of these kids are continue with languages at Beloit. My D will be bio/premed and might minor in Russian.

Apollo - I give my son credit that he didn’t resist when I directed his application efforts. But if left up to him, I doubt many, if any, of those applications would have beeen submitted by now. That early schedule was definitely for MY benefit. But he’s appreciating it all now since he can just focus on school work and isn’t worried about meeting application deadlines.

Congratulations Apollo and Reeinaz! Beloit is already a serious contender in our son’s list. It’s a great college; DH and I have a lot of experience with the place Our applicant has a number of other decisions he’s waiting for, but it is hard for us not to be excited about having our baby possibly choose this one.

Hooray!!! My son received his scholarship award letter today. $20k/y. Based on what their NPC says, Beloit is most definitely the most affordable option so far. Hopefully, the FA package will be close to what the NPC is.

reeinaz - congrats! Their fin aid should be really good - meeting 92 % of need - not bad at all!

Yeah Reeinaz! What great news! Can he visit? We were thinking about driving D up for a visit over winter break because she’d have to fly there from her boarding school but I’m not sure it’s worth it since classes wouldn’t be in session. Tough choices ahead!

Apollo - there are no definite plans to visit at the moment. But I’m going to try and make that happen. I think a visit will get him more exited about the school. Right now though, one other school is still prefered by him but I think that’s just becaue he has visited the other school.

Did any parents recieve a letter from the school’s president? I’m asking because I’m trying to figure out how personalized this letter is. The letter I received mentioned the science building, the arts building, and an athletic facility. These three things just happen to relate to my son’s areas of interest that were expressed in his application. I’m just wondering if this is a coincidence or another example of Beloit’s personal touch.

I don’t recall a letter from the president, but i do like the visit days for accepted students. Daughter was awarded a travel scholarship and will go next month. The early action acceptances are so exciting, and i’m impressed with the merit money.

My son is going to the accepted students visit in March. Luckily, that’s the week he’s off for spring break.

My D will visit too, if the whole FA package is sufficient. :)
