-Will colleges "forgive" your bad grades one year, even marginally, if they're so out of sync with the rest of your years and it's because of a family crisis?
-What are some colleges that have a good pre-med program?

Also chance me for Duke, Cornell, Washington University in St. Louis, UVA, William and Mary, Rice, and Northwestern.
Thank you

True story: My sister, who graduated from HS in '07, had A's in all of her English and History classes but B's in all of her Science and Math classes. She spent every waking day on her application for Stanford. She made it very specific and extremely individual. She got in.

So, although I cannot say reach/match because Stanford is extremely unpredictable, I suggest you apply. If pre-med is your intended route, you have an 800 in the math section of your SAT, as well as high scores on your SATII's. However, Stanford does not superscore, at least from what I know of. And your EC's don't really stand out. You will need to write a KILLER essay.

And all the others are match's.

I would disagree with above poster regarding EC's. Research, publication, AIME, and Biology Olympiad make up a very strong, focused set of credentials. I think if you convey your story well (including junior year troubles) you have a fantastic shot at Stanford.

USABO semi? I got into finals last year :)

I'd agree w/ Duck, your extracurrics are pretty good, but a killer essay wouldn't hurt anyone.

I think that your GPA in itself is relatively strong (If it's on a 4.0 scale), and your junior year GPA wouldn't hurt you too much if you were able to outline why it was low (perhaps in the "any other comments" section of the app?)

thanks for all the helpful comments guys
and wow you got into finals? that's quite commendable

As far as I know Stanford superscores (?)
