So I'm applying EA and really need to finish up my application—any insight would be appreciated on these topics:

For the optional supplement, how advisable would it be to be creative (handwrite it, add pictures, etc.)? I'm thinking about doing it "journal" style.

Should I submit an art supplement? I have only a handful of pieces to submit (5-6). One won a small award at school; 2 others were displayed in local galleries but didn't win awards.

Whatever you make of it… to me, an essay is usually written in continuous prose with clear paragraphs, for example.

What I’m trying to say is that creativity is fine but there are ways to pack a punch without coming across pretentious and there is a very fine line there. Writing it in a journal style sounds fine but would handwriting be necessary? That’s all :)

Do not handwrite your essay… That’s trying too hard, and they may not bother to read it if it is at all illegible. Also, they never asked that it be handwritten. Follow instructions. The purpose of the extra essay is to tell them something they don’t know about you. It’s that simple. If you write something good, trust me, they will remember that more than the girl with the funky handwritten journal style essay with mediocre content.
As far as the art supplement goes, if you are proud of your work, by all means, submit it!!

@BldrDad I was actually referring to the optional essay; I don’t really have that many supplemental materials to submit, as my counselor attaches resumes to her letter.

@howtocollege - you mentioned submitting an art supplement - that would be supplemental materials. You can submit both the optional essay and an art supplement if you think it helps them get to know you better.
