EA to MSB?

<p>I've dreamt of going to MSB for international business since the end of my freshman year. So, as a result, I was hoping to get some feedback on my stats so I can see if I'm on the right track.</p>

<p>GRADES--------
SAT I: 2140 (770M, 720W (11essay), 650R).... taking march sat and hoping to get reading to a 700
SAT II: 650Bio E (freshman year), will be taking APUSH, Math II, and physics
ACT: n/a (practice test of 30 w/out studying so I'm hoping for a 31-32 on the next test)
GPA (UW): appx a 96/100....... (W) appx a 98.7/100
Current courseload: AP lang, APUSH, intro to BC calc H, German 4H, Business Law H, Studio Art H, Physics H......currently showing a strong upward trend from sophomore year
Senior Courseload (most rigorous): AP lit, AP macro, AP Calc, AP stats, AP physics, college German
AP (score in parenthesis): World History (5)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars----------
-300+ hours as assistant coach for a youth soccer program
-appx 50 hours as intern for the Make-A-Wish foundation
-organized a town-wide driveand raised appx 4000 childrens books and 500 DVDs for both a new wing in a local hospital and an inner-city library
-tutoring both a fellow classmate in trig and a middle-schooler primarily in English and SS (paid)
-personal trainer for 3 different kids.....stems from the assistant coaching but in a 1on1 scenario (paid)
-currently organizing a bracelet drive through the same club i did the book drive to raise money to be donated to help Hurricane Sandy victims
-Co-president of FBLA, active member in school Miracle Club and German Honor Society, soon-to-be member of NHS
-some other 1-day things where i cleaned cots in preparation for hurricane Irene and helped at a school fair</p>

<p>Awards-------
-AP scholar hopeful by the end of this year
........-applying for Adelphi Community Leader Scholarship/Award which is given to a select group of kids to serve their community
........-trying for a couple other comparatively lesser awards to help bolster this section of my application</p>

<p>Essays/Recommendations/etc-------
My counselor and I have a really good relationship as does my Sophomore English teacher. I don't know about my 3rd recommendation but I am confident that the first two will be awesome.
Essays......considering I don't know the topics I can only say I'll give it my best and be sure to say how dedicated to the school I am.
Interview.......I'd like to think I'm relatively personable so I'm optimistic about that as well</p>

<p>Final comments---------
I plan on doing an 8-day business program at Georgetown this Summer and hope to establish a good reputation among whomever I meet there
My high school rank is most-likely in the top 5% but my school doesn't rank
My school is in the nation's top 150 so it can be said that its very competitive</p>

<p>Also, as far as my SAT II’s go, do I have the option to not send Bio since its so low? I know they ask for 3 and I’m doing 3 this year alone so could I just send them instead of bio since it meets the requirement?</p>

<p>Georgetown doesn’t participate in score choice. If you do not wish for the school to see that Bio subject score, you must retake the subject test and send in the new score. I would suggest you stop taking the SAT once your reading scores break 700. You’re EC are somewhat related to the field you’re pursuing, so that’s good. However, I think you should be looking for a major award, extracurricular, or volunteer opportunity that makes you stand out. Your current ECs are good but I don’t think they are excellent. Georgetown essay topics are released mid to late summer; keep your eyes peeled.</p>

<p>Alright thanks! I have a friend who’s starting a little music review business and I’ve been helping him out here and there but its definitely too soon to see if it will be successful or not. <p>With regard to my SATs, hitting a 700 is my goal as I had said. I’d be content with anything above a 1450/1600 (as close to a 1500 as possible). </p>

<p>Finally, i apprecite the input as far as bio goes. Unfortunately, since I took it freshman year, I most likely would be too far removed to score well and will most likely have to deal with the score I have. However, I’m assuming if I can hold 700+ in the other three that I’m taking this year then it won’t be detrimental to my app?</p>

<p>If you can get two really strong SAT 2 scores (around 750) then you should be fine in that aspect of the application; don’t worry about that bio score. Also, definitely try to focus on something related to business either now or over the summer. Georgetown doesnt look at the writing score, but your SAT is still pretty strong right now. If you can get it 40 points higher then you would have a very solid chance of being admitted. The problem is you never know with these top schools. They admit certain applicants and reject more qualified ones. But as of right now you have a very good application.</p>

<p>It shouldn’t be “detrimental” per se simply because your major will not be bio heavy. Just make sure you get those +700 scores. I’ll be looking into “Cha Music” personally for entertainment purposes now, so thanks ;)</p>

Although it may be irrelevant, I do feel like I should say that this is primarily my friend’s site and I’m mainly there for the designs and ‘advertising’ (if you’d like to call it that). Regardless, I appreciate that you’re interested in it and if you could tell any friends about it when you get the chance, that would be great!</p>

<p>In reference to G-town, I appreciate both of your input on the SAT II’s and I will be sure to give it my best when they come closer. You also make a good point about bio not being very major-relevant as I hadn’t thought about it from that angle. I just took a practice SAT in preparation for the March exam and I’m hoping that reading might go up 20-30 points. However, I wasn’t feeling too hot coming out of it and I’m glad it was a practice. I’ll get my scores back tomorrow so I guess we’ll see…</p>

<p>So… practice scores came back. Not bad b/c of the potential superscore but if it stood alone it would be awful (by my standards at least)</p>

<p>M 660 (lowest score ever) W 640(10 essay) R 700. 2000 </p>

<p>Thankfully, if it was a superscore, my high writing would make it a 1470/2190 (which I’d be fine with).</p>

<p>The fact that math and writing were so low was somewhat of a wake-up call and its great that this would come before the actual test so I’d come out of this happy but more ‘aware’ per se.</p>

<p>However, I do have a question. If I were to have a superscore which was 50+ points over either of my two scores, could that reflect badly when it came time to have my application reviewed. I know that it wouldn’t be as good compared to a student who matches my superscore in 2 tests which are each equivalent to that score (hopefully you know what I mean). But how heavily would this be taken into account when that time arrives?</p>

<p>Nothing is for certain, but yes, you may come off as a lucky first timer.</p>

<p>Yeah luckily it was a practice so hopefully I can keep that reading score and hold a mid-700 average between writing and math like my first test. That would be the ideal scenario…</p>

<p>Would colleges really look at an applicant and say, “yeah this kid just got lucky?” I honestly thought that the process would be a little bit more ‘in-depth’ to be honest as opposed to just writing someone off as getting lucky…</p>

<p>Perhaps that was a little harsh, but yes, it will be the decisive difference between you and another equally qualified student who actually maintained his SAT scores through every retake.</p>

<p>I know but it’s so hard not to think about it. I know I’m not exactly being evaluated by admissions counselors but I feel like any unbiased source I can get here can only help.</p>
