EA Tulane Class of 2016

I agree you are likely to get offered admission, not as sure about the scholarship. Hard to say, need to know your UW GPA and how many AP courses you have/are taking. The ACT score of 28 is at about the 25th percentile for Tulane, maybe even a bit below that. But the rest of your app looks strong.

Also, if you meant to say your application fee was waived, Tulane has no application fee for anybody.

My UW GPA is a 3. 4 which is a little low but i will graduate with 10 AP classes and the rest honors. And oh, I did not know that! They emailed me saying it was waived.

Yeah, their email says it has been waived but the application is free for everyone.

Accepted yesterday!
3.3 UW GPA, 95 out of 754 ranking (I go to an extremely competitive 3,000 student public high school in South Florida)
1920 SAT (620 640 660)
29 ACT
I work on the weekends and have a strong and consistant set of extracurriculars

C324mg - Yep, just marketing speak. Wish they wouldn’t do that. Anyway, your GPA is fine, especially given your challenging schedule. I do think you will be offered admission, but I think you are borderline for any merit scholarship.

Thank you guys for giving your opinion! And I am not expecting any scholarships! Just an acceptance letter!!

So… chances?

Did anyone who applied on november 14th/15th get a response already?

lorel - some have and some haven’t. The admissions office has said not to pay attention to when you applied, they are just digging through the flood of apps and promise an answer by Dec. 15. They have said at this point who hears back when is relatively random.

Tigerb - Oh man, it looks like you just missed guaranteed admission by 0.01 on your GPA. [Tulane Admission: Louisiana Applicants](http://admission.tulane.edu/apply/now/louisiana.php) That’s a shame, but I think you still are in pretty good shape for admission.

fallenchemist - Haha, I know. It’s very disappointing, but there’s nothing I can really do but laugh it off now at how close I was to meeting that requirement. I’m just a bit nervous, as I’m kind of at/below borderline and Tulane is really my no. 1 choice. Oh well. I guess we’ll see within a week or so!

I applied SCEA on November 14; transcript with school report and letter of recommendation sent on November 7 and November 14 respectively. Gibson still says I need my transcript and report. I’ll see if I get a decision by December 15th!

Jmplayer it can take them up to 3 weeks to update ur online status.

I guess that I am just anxious if they have received my documents (they were sent by mail). It is about three weeks from the day I applied though.

If I do not receive a change in status by this Friday, should I call admissions on Saturday?

I would e-mail your admissions person today and just say you are double checking that they received everything since you know it was sent about 3 weeks ago and Gibson still says they don’t have it. Sometimes 2 files accidentally get created for the same person, and asking the question makes this clear and they fix it.

If anybody was wondering I just got my letter and I got the Founders (22k/year) scholarship!! This makes Tulane a much more feasible school in my mother’s eyes haha. Does anyone know how these scholarships play into FAFSA? Does this add to how much I would get from need-based aid, or is it subtracted from whatever I would get normally? Like say I would qualify for 40k (which I have no idea whether that is true or not just random number) from FAFSA, would I then only get 20k from FAFSA or would the scholarship just be added? Obviously no one on here really knows besides Tulane themselves, but I’m kind of very cluesless when it comes to financial aid stuff (I kind of decided to just wait until I actually get in somewhere to worry about it, lol). Thanks, I am so excited!

Actually we do know. The $22,000 is absolutely considered an asset for you and is subtracted from your aid, or more precisely is added to your EFC (Expected Financial Contribution) since it is not really cash in the bank but is a discount on tuition. Congratulations, btw. That really is fantastic. Anyway, if your EFC was, say $15,000 before the scholarship, it is now $37,000 with $22,000 of it being “Tulane money”. So naturally it doesn’t actually affect your FAFSA since it is only an asset if you attend Tulane.

So you still have to come up with $15,000 (or whatever your EFC turns out to be). The big benefit is that you don’t have anything close to as much money from the need-based part of the equation, and that almost always means less loans.

its not lost do u think theres any chance of still getting in even tho i applied long ago?

i don’t know if someone already said this (i only read the earlier messages) but i just got my admin letter and i got presidential 27k  ACT 32 SAT 2210 Rank- not sure… top 3? extra curriculars- mathletes, brainstormers, volunteering, IRISH DANCE (my life…) gpa is like 102/100 i think

oh and question… how many people get the presidential scholarship? just wondering bc i’m applying for the full ride as well.
