EA Villanova?!

Gender: M
Race: Caucasian
School: Public, sends a few to top schools.
Location: NJ
Major: Undeclared Arts/Some form of engineering

SAT I: ** Re-take in November, likely 2000+. Last CR+M score= 1250 (First try, blind)
**SAT II:
Have yet to take. Likely will be math and English/history.

GPA: 3.94 unweighted, 4.26 weighted
Rank: Top 10%
Schedule: Rigorous. I am taking a good number of APs and many honors courses. Unlike other high schools, AP classes are almost exclusively available to seniors.

Extracurriculars:
Private Art Lessons
Outdoor Track (Varsity)
Indoor Track (Varsity)
Art Club
Physics Club
Newspaper
Interact
SGA
NHS
Co-founder of Celtic Club (Irish appreciation, lol)
Volunteer @ Church (Approx. 7 hrs per month)
Volunteer @ local library (Approx. 15 hrs per month)
Habitat for Humanity-type group (Approx. 2 hrs per month)

Work: Tutor, ~3 hours per week. Free lance artist

Leadership: Have been invited to an insane amount of conferences around the world, but it was never feasible to attend. Additionally, I will likely be named a team captain on either track team. It is customary for the position to be dolled out to seniors, and very very rarely an underclassmen or junior garners the role.

Awards:
Nothing out of the ordinary. Just school awards and a couple of national things.

Question!
Would NOT being Catholic possibly be a hook?

Other schools of interest:
-Penn State University Park
-Rutgers
-Lehigh
-TCNJ
-Drexel
-Syracuse
-NYU
-UMD
-Muhlenberg

And just curious... do I have a shot at any Ivies?

Thanks for reading. If you have school suggestions, please feel free to voice them. I am mostly considering schools in the PA/NJ/NY area.

oh come on, please!

Okay, I’ll give you my best guess. You will be deferred and accepted regular admission. Your gpa and class rank are very good but your SAT’s are a bit below the school’s average.

As far as not being catholic as a hook, I don’t think it is. Villanova is interested in increasing diversity but simply not being catholic isn’t a hook imo - there a plenty of non-catholics at Villanova and other Catholic colleges for it to be unique. If you were an URM that would help you because of the Villanova stereotype regarding lack of diversity.

Good luck. Maybe I am wrong (since I did not attend Nova and have no inside information)but I have friends and a sister who attended Villanova. My sister was a Top 10-15% with a 1350 and deferred EA.

As far as school suggestions, your list is pretty diverse. You will have a much different college experience at the other schools (except maybe lehigh). Your list has some pretty different types of schools. 4 types in my opinion. Large state schools (Penn State, Rutgers and MD), a “commuter school” (TCNJ), Mid-sized, private universities with engineering departments (Lehigh and Villanova) and small LACs (Muhlenburg, etc.). It may help if you focused on the type of school you would like to attend.

My guess is that the Nova/Lehigh choices will fit your personality (based on my limited information) more than the big state schools. You obviously are a motivated person that is willing to challenge yourself intellectually. You may find that the big state schools have a smaller percentage of students with your focus. I am not saying that as a criticism (in fact UM - college park has become pretty selective) but they are normally bigger party/tailgate type school. Lehigh is a big drinking school but the students there balance it with studying. There are some very bright kids at Penn State but the average student will be at a somewhat lower level than at Nova/Lehigh. Class sizes will also be much bigger.

If you like Nova and Lehigh, consider Lafayette and Bucknell too. All 4 are very good schools with similar admission standards.

Syracuse is an interesting mix. It is private but in my opinion, has the feel of a state school. Their communications school (Newhouse) is supposed to be good but I don’t know about their engineering department.

Nova looks good. As do all your others. I wouldn’t say anything about religion and being invited to different conferences won’t help you unless you actually attend.

Chance Back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/804723-chances-ed-dartmouth.html

You may have moved on since this thread is about a month old but I checked and the middle SAT range for nova early action is 1360 - 1450. I feel sure you will not be accepted EA (no offense). I do think you have a good shot at RD.
