Ea?

Hey all,
I'm trying to decide whether to apply EA to UChicago or not. I'm just a little hesitant about one thing: my SAT score. I got a 2280 (720 CR, 760 M, and 800 W) but I realize that UChicago doesn't look at the writing part so my perfect score there won't count (bummer). Just looking at my Math and Reading scores, that'd be a 1480. Is that too low for UChicago? Should I wait to apply RD so that I can take the SAT one more time, or should I still go for EA?

Thanks!

Hello hobbesette! I personally think your SAT score is great. It’s right in the range of what admitted UChicago students got. However, remember that admissions counselors don’t just look at SAT scores. Make sure you stay involved, keep those grades up, and write a stellar essay! As to your question, I think you should apply EA. Good luck!!

Yes, how DARE you consider applying EA with anything less than a 790 on each section? You are not worthy - nah I’m just messing with you dude(ette?). Your SAT is great and would NOT be the reason you get rejected/waitlisted if it happens. Focus on more important things like grades and extra curriculars that you love, they’ll look more impressive than a slight bump, esp. considering your scores are already so great. Also, WORK ON THOSE ESSAYS! U Chicago pays a lot of attention to those. Wouldn’t you rather be writing about the epic battle between you and your arch nemesis than studying from those SAT prep books? Anecdotal evidence btw, I got in with a 650 in the Math section.

Oh, forgot to mention something… If this makes you feel better, you got a higher SAT score than I did and I still got in. If your essay is well-written, (because UChicago admissions officers love those essays!) you should be fine!

technically, nothing’s “too low” for uchicago, because they look at your application holistically. they don’t have a minimum GPA or SAT score, but even if they did i think yours would be pretty competitive. also, you actually have two more opportunities to take the SAT and still make it in time for the EA cutoff (october + november)

chance me? –> http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1375979-chance-me-please-uchicago-umich.html

Wow, thanks for all the helpful responses! I should also probably note that concerning demographics, I’m an Asian female (not sure if that makes much of a difference regarding whether I need to make my SAT score a bit more competitive, hahah).

Anyways, thanks again for all of your input!
