EA'ers why will you be accepted/deferred/rejected?

Stolen from Stanford board which claimed that they stole it from this board originally, but I couldn't find that thread anywhere.

Admit: First Generation College Student; decent amount of leadership; high scores for African-American (2270, aiming for 2320 in Nov), top 1% class rank, NHS President, pres of competitve quiz bowl team
Defer: only awards are national merit commended/ national achievement sf; i feel my essays will only be avg; school doesnt offer aps
Reject: not standing out; took math Ic yesterday and got like a 710 at best; only 2 kids have gone to yale in last 3-4 yrs

yeah i remember this thread, although i think it might have come after the fact...

I will be:
Admitted because of my amazing awesomeness,
Deffered because of my amazing mediocrity, or
Rejected because of my amazing awfulness.

I will be:
Admitted cuz I'm a minority w/ decent test scores (2160...I said decent, not great), above a 100 GPA, NHRP Scholar, French Club VP, NHS Historian, a pretty good writer, ranked in the top 1%, and obsessed enough to try for Yale even though no one from my school has ever even applied, and only one person has ever gotten into an Ivy (Columbia)
Deferred cuz my SAT scores are ehh, and even though I probably did really well on the literature and spanish SAT II's, I messed up the US History one.
Rejected cuz my SAT scores are ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

a 2160 pwns. how does that suck?

It doesn't suck! I mean, it's supposed to be better than average!!! Technically, I SHOULD be proud of it!! Buuuuuut, it's Yale, so automatically anything below a 2390 is horrible! Lol, it's sad, huh?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

Accepted: I am the dictator of a South American principality.
Deferred: It is a small principality.
Rejected: It has quite a drug enforcement problem.

deferred.
cuz im too average..
cuz i do too much, and nothing stands out..
cuz im not like THAT bad.. i'll just be rejected at a later time SOBS

lol filmxoxo

accepted: i was a bulldog in my previous life
deferred: i used to be a sheepdog
rejected: i was a siamese cat. with two heads.

accepted: cuz the adcoms were high
deferred: cuz i didn't save the world like everyone else who got in
rejected: cuz i'm indian (god knows they need more of those)

accepted:cause I'll officially promise to disguise my dog as a bulldog for the rest of her days.
deferred:cause I bought only around 20 items from the Yale bookstore
rejected:cause my friend spilled coffee all over my Yale tshirt and it's a mess right now

I<3myYaletshirt. I got it yesterday, so I'm wearing it tomorrow at school, this Saturday for the PSAT, in 26 days for the SAT, in 56 days for the SAT II, and for all my other standardized testing. I was thinking of wearing it to my college fair tomorrow, but that seems kind of ostentatious, no? Maybe I'll wear a sweatshirt over it and then answer all the questions at the Yale booth and buy the representative coffee.

Rejected: Even though I'm not applying for a year, they think I'm trying too hard so they'll send me a letter anyway.

Accepted: research oriented (CS research fall'04, Math research fall'05), excellent test scores and class rank, good EC's, and RSI (acceptance)?
Deferred: low gpa (due to freshman year), and mediocre essays?
Rejected: nothing unique.. typical math/science kid with no international recognition.

Accepted: Good SAT's (2390), good recs, lots of involvement / leadership / passion
Deferred: GPA isn't outstanding (3.86 on 4.0), essays won't blow them away, lack of awards (only national merit commended and one of those AP awards)
Rejected: It takes a unanimous vote to admit, whereas rejection is easy to achieve. My SAT II's aren't too good (700, 710, 750), and my lack of awards could hurt

oh my god, it takes a unanimous vote to admit? really? where did you hear this?

oh my god, it takes a unanimous vote to admit? really? where did you hear this?

huh? I don't think that true

Accept: Asian
Defer: Asian who is extremely average
Reject: Asian who's not as good as other Asians

actually, I'm sure that you do need an unanimous vote for admit. I was quite suprised to hear this myself, but was told this by the adcom rep for my area, and then clarified it with him in order to make sure that what I heard was correct. However, you have to remember, this doesn't change anything. I'm sure that most of the time it is either all yes or all no votes for a candidate, because a great deal is dependent on how you are presented by your region's admissions rep. Everyone on the committee is looking for the same thing (well rounded, intelligent, hardworking students with something to add to the University's population), and therefore the results will probably be the same. However, this revelation doesn't change anything though, once you think about it. Whether each applicant is voted on or not, each of us already know the percentages, each of us knows the SAT ranges, and each of us knows how fickle the process can seem to be. It is extremely difficult to be admitted in for everyone, and even those with perfect SAT's are not guaranteed acceptance. The voting is just the means by which they chose, and the fact that it is unanimous allows Yale to develop the correct size for the class. There are a great deal many more applicants who are qualified than there are positions available, and I am sure that well over 9% of the applicants recieve a majority vote. However, unanimous votes are probably fewer and farther between, allowing for only the applicants deemed by the entire committee to be fit for Yale to be admitted.

I will be accepted because I'm a national merit semifinalist, many leadersehip positions, NHS president, many additional academic programs, and committed community service.
I will be deferred because I'm Asian, I have ehh SAT scores (2250) and a 770, 760, 760 on SAT II's, the only sports activity I have is tae kwon do, and I should be smarter because my parents are geniuses.
I will be rejected because I got a 650 on my bio SAT II (which is the 4th SAT II test I'm submitting), my essays are mediocre, and I haven't done anything "amazing" in my life.

accepted- high gpa (4.1/4) , high sats (2380), high sat2s, summer research, editor of a couple of papers, president of a couple clubs
deferred- good but not amazing recs, yale hates my high school for some reason, competitive state (ny
rejected- im not special. i have no awards and my research was rushed.
oh, and when i say not special, i mean in terms of admissions. i think my personality is pretty wicked awesome :)

wtvr. we all know we're cool whether or not admissions officers agree

runs and hides in a corner of denial

oh yeah and i have no community service. haha im not a very charitable person. also, how much does ntnl merit semi count?
